Is it possible to find decent LotRPS without feeling like I've wandered into a horrible horrible cess-pool of bad writing and self-delusion

And most everything I stumble on in LotRPS by anyone who isn't a writer I know from The Est is like craz crazy bad bad tinhat kookiness.
like who? or what? i'm curious. i have admittedly been somewhat removed from the main body of the fandom for a while but i haven't seen anything really nuts in ages. i don't necessarily think that a lack of a complex disclaimer means that someone believes their stories. i put up the same blanket disclaimer index pages of my web site and in the userinfo of my fic journal ("fiction means made up") and then give the benefit of doubt to the reader.
as for finding good stories, there are some excellent recs lists out there. mcee's is a great start here.
Oh yeah, didn't mean to imply, "must have long ranting disclaimer", but I tumbled across a list of recs last night that was just phrased in a way that was all "this is so _true_" and not meaning "these stories are so honest" and it squicked me the bloody hell out. I'll try to find the bad yuckiness when I get home from work so I can share with the class.
my own recs are a short and incomplete list here, and shiny_new_toy is a nice list put together by ink_stain and some friends (it's got other fandoms as well but mostly lotrips). i also like checking the memories of writers i trust. often they have saved things i didn't see.
makesmewannadie has a list of rec posts here. She's one of the Est long term fangirls, and I usually enjoy most of what she recs.
After having been told several times that I'd like her stuff, I finally started reading abundantlyqueer and I've enjoyed most of what I've read so far. She's very much into the AU's and the WIPs, but she's incredibly prolific. I adored See Under: Clue, Getting A (a completed Elijah/Orli series) which takes place during the filming of LotR and Na Goshi which is a very interesting AU taking place in Hong Kong.
