Florida Hospital is the best hospital to work at...its the one that I'm working at. The Graduate Nurse program is the only reason why I moved to Orlando. I fell in love with it the first time I stumbled onto their website. I love everything about it so far. The hospital is great...they're building a new tower and a new peds floor(we're so happy about that...we need the room) Its actually the busiest hospital in the US...something to pride itself on. I'm patiently awaiting my relocation bonus..you have to wait 12 weeks for it. $1000 flat, and they reimburse you for moving expenses(trucks, gas, tolls, etc) up to $1000. I only need to be reimbursed about $300 so I'll be getting a $1300 check in a few months. I can't wait for that. Since you'll have a BSN you'll be starting at $19.70/hr. No shift differentials until the first 12 weeks are up and no overtime. Thats the down side to it all. But definately check it out. Where my hospital is located, its just past downtown...plenty far away from the theme parks. Its just a huge

Oh yeah....I have the dates for the next rounds of GN programs if you want them. I have tons of stuff you can look at. Maybe you might want to plan a day to come up here and I can show you around, take you to the hospital, show you around where I live, that sort of thing. Just let me know.
And don't listen to all the instructors. Jump right in to the specialty that you want. Don't do med/surg for a few years. If you want OR, then go for it. You can always go back to a floor if you want. If I would have listened to all of my instructors, I'd still be in Tampa, probably working at St Joes on a cardiac unit, wishing I was somewhere else. I listened to my gut and now I'm in Orlando, at a fabulous hospital, working with kids, with the option to eventually go to the NICU...where I want to end up) Do what you feel is best. Follow your heart and you'll be right where you need to be.
Do what you want to do....you're working way to hard to become a nurse and you have too much a passion for it to settle on working in a field you're not going to like!
