The situation with my ipod is out of control. So it typically only works when plugged in but the battery used to last me about an hour. Now I feel like the max I would get is thirty minutes. I also have a 20gb fourth generation ipod (boring black and white screen) and so naturally my battery is also on its last leg.
May I suggest a website that someone who has an even older ipod version than mine gave me....http://www.ipodjuice.com/
Instead of paying lots of money for a new one and for all that space you dont need, just spend $$ on a new battery. they give you a kit to install it yourself. $25 is their cheapest one, the most expensive is like $45, though I am looking at the 4th generation ones, so I'm not sure what price yours is...
Your old ipod will really be just like new, minus the whole non-colored screen thing. (By the way, I get really jealous of those colored screens and sometimes am embarrassed of mine, but I do not have $200 to spend on another one)

there are more issues than battery here. well my screen is really scratched and hard to see when the back light is on anyways. 20gb is not enough for me. it is fourth gen, and there's the issue of it resetting for no reason. it does this constantly and i'm not sure that that's related to the battery.

i feel like i sound kind of bitchy here and I don't mean to be.

i have that same ipod :( they really need to make things last longer. (but i figured out if i try like 10 times, and switch between using my firewire and my usb my computer has a 10% chance of recognizing my ipod to let my upload new music, its a royal pain in my ass though)

I don't know if I would be able to tolerate that. although my ipod resets itself every time I touch it and I am dealing with that pretty well.
