the Good Book

I don't believe people when they say their favorite book is The Bible. And, often, when I see The Bible in a list of favorite books (myspace, facebook) that list pretty much includes it and one or two other books. This makes me want to say that these people who claim it a favorite don't even actually read books, and I never believe they've ( Read more... )

there's a site that has crunched some numbers on favorite books of a school according to facebook and their correlation to the average SAT score of that school. the FAQ talks about how the bible figures into those numbers.

the only thing i find interesting about the bible is analysis of it. in the classes where i had to use my NRSV bible, i would keep getting lost in footnotes that analyzed the use of a certain word or put things in historical or linguistic context. the bible itself? not exactly favorite book material to me.
