A lot has been said about how to prevent rape. Women should learn self-defense. Women should lock themselves in their houses after dark. Women shouldn't have long hair and women shouldn't wear short skirts. Women shouldn't leave drinks unattended. Fuck, they shouldn't dare to get drunk at all.

Instead of that bullshit, how about:

I agree with all this as a survivor as well, except I do believe woman should know how to protect themselves, because unfortunately these things do happen.

The article isn't saying they shouldn't know how to protect themselves.

It's saying that everyone has a responsibility to stop it - not just women. Silence is very often mistaken for acceptance and anytime a guy has sex with a drunken chick and brags to his buddy about it - and the buddy says nothing? It's saying a lot of things, but it's not saying "This is wrong."

I agree that people need to change to do things. I had people that would brag about driving home drunk and I told them they needed to change that lifestyle because as a motorcyclist I've seen a lot of people killed because of distracted and dangerous driving ( ... )

This seems like such clear truth, doesn't it? And yet, I'm constantly surprised and disgusted at how difficult it is to argue the simple points stated in this post to some people. I hope I live to see the day when the "she/he was asking for it" argument is completely and utterly dead.
