It's been a while... And I've thought of the same thing, a lot. Instead of Benedict, though, I think of what Thoreau did. I wish I was brave enough to go out into the woods and just... live. And of course he has more balls than you. You are a WOMAN after all. And according to Freud you are extremely jealous of penises. Hahaha.
The monk seems to have been a good person, but I refuse to feel bad because I have a good life. I refuse to feel bad because I'm white and male and comparatively affluent. I will not apologize for who I am and how I grew up, nor will I try to equivocate my existence with those who are less fortunate than me simply because I think that will justify me as a human being. um hi. it's lisa. ilse's friend. um. just wanted to give you props. not like you want or need my opinion or anything, buuuut...right on...these feelings of guilt you're having, i understand. you know they say the single most important trait as far as social status is race. it's just imbedded in people (especially those not of the marginalized group) to have latent hate driven prejudices, i mean, institutionalized racism. hello. but i'm sure you already know that. what i'm getting at is, recognition of privilage, followed by a series of actions and re-evaluation of socioeconomic situations locally and globally makes such a huge impact. like if every straight white dude realized that he is (according to a capitalistic society) the social elite, and took steps to evaluate, heal, and act accordingly we'd be living in quite a different society. if people were actually driven to be accountable for each other you know...*sigh*...anyway, if you're interested, there's this economist something reich, who wrote an interesting piece concerning
( ... )
Welcome back my darling...also, if I'm one that you don't particularly want to buy anything for, I'm perfectly fine with that. No one needs to feel obligated to buy me anything. <3
