I don't generally post much about my work. Mostly because it's not very interesting much of the time. 90% of my job is Code Plumbing. Unsexy work designed to distribute data, or collate it into a usable form so that the other 10% of the system can do its job ( Read more... )

Well, in the past, I've had to deal with profiling apps that were part of a large installed system, with complicated compiling, packaging, and distribution scripts. This includes a big whack of dynamic libraries. So getting a compiled, installed, working system winds up being a painful manual process.

For my current system, I link everything that I can static anyway, which simplifies this significantly.
