For 2011, one of my goals is to be more active in charitable productivity and charitable giving.  To that end, I'm focusing at the moment on the possibility of knitting caps/afghans for preemies and chemo patients and collecting the same from others.  (See * below ( Read more... )

The Cancer Society has a lot of local drop off places. Caps for folks with little or no hair must be made from vVERY soft wool so they aren't scratchy. Acrylic isn't necessarily very soft, unfortunately.

When I had no hair (after surgery) most wool was very scratchy against my scalp. I will always remember that fact.

I think I'd look for the volunteer co-ordinator- like the person in charge of candy stripers. While you might find they are the wrong person I bet they can find you the correct one.

Small lap blankets would also be appreciated at assisted living/senior facilities. Your might ask Vigdis. She does hospice, but might have a connection to the other sort of places.
