I'll admit I'm horribly shallow, but I also think, considering some of my crushes, that I'm also horribly choosy, and even looks won't work for me. I also use this standard for myself and find myself completely not date worthy. However, I don't much mind, as I can barely handle myself, let alone someone else. Selfish, too. :P
Being whole and complete has nothing to do with having what you want/need already but realizing you have the tools to do it, easy or no. :)
*hugs back* Thanks! I am indeed alive and not too mopey. And hey it's better to have standards than none at all just to "prove" you can get someone

I don't think because your friend pointed him out that you're required to give him a try. As long as you just told her something like, "I don't really think he's my type" then she has no right to force him upon you.
The problem with reason is it tends to be disembodied from reality, and if you don't feel it, you don't. Period. If she's a cool person, she'll realize even if you said something vain or shallow, that you're not that person and get over it.
I don't know, we'll see if it comes up again. I had thought I was someone for whom looks were not as important as personality, but maybe my physical standards are tougher than I had thought.
Ooh, what kind of guitar? Playing helps keep me (relatively) sane and happy! Learning can be frustrating at first, but if you keep at it, it gets a lot easier and more fun as your fingers develop strength, dexterity, and of course calluses. I'm rebuilding mine now after three months overseas, away from my guitars. Motor memory is an amazing thing, btw; after extended breaks like that my fingers somehow remember songs that my head has seemingly forgotten.
Sounds like the dance lessons may also be worth a shot for all the reasons you mention, including the social aspect. And you might even have fun! Ever seen the original Japanese 1996 film Shall We Dance?
Being whole and complete is overrated. Where would the internet be without emo, angsty navel-gazing? ;) But seriously, I totally agree with sakuracorr on this. It's all about the journey, after all

Umm...I have no idea what kind of guitar I own. *sheepish* Do you mean the manufacturer and model? It looks like a fairly cheap starter guitar to learn on. I desperately need to involve myself in a hobby or two anyway
