It's a very interesting and crushingly depressing book. I feel very lucky to be alive today.

Like all sensible readers of a big fat textbook, I started in the middle with the end of the renaissance, and I'm nearing the end of the Victorian era.

There are a lot of interesting bits from H: a history that I do feel compelled to share - there's a fictional speech from a gay priest in the 1850s which is blimmin good, and I'm probably gonna eke a post out of it soon - watch this space!

Alas, having now finished the book... Jeffers was a forward-thinker, since he thought that you should castrate homosexuals instead of hang them.
