I love this book title

I taught myself accordion using books from the library (whether I actually taught myself well is debatable) and one of the books they have, from the mid-1800s, is called:

Winner's New School For The Accordion In Which The Instructions Are So Clearly And Simply Treated

the "well" part can always come with practice. I'm a firm believer in being self taught. So, how hard was it? I've often heard that the accordion is a difficult instrument. Did you already know how to play the piano?

I didn't know how to play piano, and that's one of the harder things about it for me. I keep thinking, wow this would be easy if I played piano already. But I do know how to play a bunch of other instruments, and I'm sure that helps.

Also, I started by trying to learn button accordion, which I think is harder to learn and has less books/resources than piano accordion. It's like a harmonica with two different notes when you push and pull, and sometimes the note is lower, sometimes higher, depending which button it is. Very confusing but also a cool instrument.

The other hard part is just that it's huge, with an instrument like guitar you can at least kind of see what you're trying to play.

Also I need to practice more :)
