The clock ticked quietly away in the corner of the room, and despite it being well into the night, bright lights shone through the small windows of the house, filtered only slightly by the small white and green drapes that hung over them.
Slowly the grand clock waiting in the hallway rang its steady chimes, it was now eight o’clock….
“Keito…” Yuto walked into the living room of their small house and sat down next to his boyfriend of four years.
“Hmm?” The English boy’s eyes never left the window they were staring at.
“I’m sorry…..”
“Hm?” Now his eyes turned to look at the slender boy beside him.
“I’m sorry…”
“For what?”
“For…. Causing all of this…”
“Yuto…. It’s not your fault… it really isn’t… you shouldn't think like that…”
“Maybe…” Yuto sighed as he laid his head against Keito’s shoulder.
Today had been quiet the difficult day for them, only a few hours ago, their relationship had been exposed to the world, and as they expected, the entire media went crazy. They were lucky that when the news broke, they were close enough to their house that they could make it in before they were bombarded with reporters.
It was a quiet night for the pair at home, at first they spent the first two hours after getting home, just recovering from their bewildering experiences, the phone never stopped ringing as tabloid after tabloid called to ask for comments. Yuto had once made the mistake of picking up the phone, only to be shouted at and interrogated by a hungry reporter. Keito had run from the kitchen and snatched the phone out of his boyfriend’s hands and yelled for the reporter to leave them alone and as Yuto watched, the now angry English boy disconnected the phone, leaving them in a brief but much needed silence.
The night continued with a few of the JUMP members calling to make sure they were okay, Yabu in particular had been extra careful to warn of things they should be careful of when making any sort of statement, it seemed this time, the agency had nothing to say, they themselves were still trying to make sense of it all.
It didn't take long before reporters surrounded their small house just waiting for a chance to take a snapshot, or interview the two boys. Keito had quickly drawn the curtains together, blocking out the lights from their cameras and shielding them from their blinding lights as the many tabloid and picture hunters began to camp out.
Throughout the night, very little was said between the boys as they considered the situation they were in. Yuto had barely gathered together enough strength to cook a small simple dinner of vegetables, rice, and a bit of chicken, and even then the boys ate in silence, occasionally looking up at each other.
Keito worried as he took bites of his food, the wondrous meals that Yuto used to cook for him were something he had always looked forward to. The love and care that the younger boy always put into the meal showed as the pieces of food seemed to glimmer in the light, but some how, the plate before him seemed dull now, lifeless. He looked up at Yuto to see the boy absent-mindedly turning rice over with his chopsticks and frowned. He resolved to break the silence and moved his hand over and placed it gently upon the other’s.
Yuto looked up at him and as their eyes met, Keito smiled at him, trying his best to assure the boy things weren’t that bad.
“It’ll be okay…” Keito said, not sure if his words carried any weight. Yuto nodded hopefully as he tried his best to return the gesture.
After dinner the two boys sat together on their bed, turning on the TV to watch one of their favorite movies on DVD, to avoid the risk of running into more news reports about “two Johnny’s idols”.
Keito pulled Yuto closer to him, putting his arms around the boy. No matter what the news would say about them, Yuto was his, and that was the way he wanted it to stay. He just hoped…… that Yuto felt the same. He was a social creature… definitely not meant for a life of being shut in like this. In a way…. Maybe it was a good thing that their relationship came into the light… it would have to eventually….. wouldn't it? As Keito watched, the younger boy sighed and adjusted himself uncomfortably on the bed, he frowned as his eyes stared straight ahead at the screen. Maybe…. Yuto is beginning to have doubts…. Keito sighed as he remembered what Yuto had said to him just a few weeks ago
“Only you know what’s in my heart Keito… and I know you’ll understand me best… only you can say the things that I’ve buried deep within, and only you can show me happiness…..”
But now… Keito couldn’t see anything within Yuto… he couldn't understand what it was that he was thinking… and he knew that the look upon the boy’s face, was definitely not one of happiness.
“Yuto?”
“H-hm?” The younger boy turned his gaze.
“I have something to ask you….”
“What is it?”
“Are you beginning to have doubts… about us I mean?”
“No… silly… I’m just… I don't know….. worried?”
“About what?”
“Keito… do you ever regret it?”
“Regret?”
“Do you ever regret…. Falling in love with me?” Keito’s eyes widened at the phrase and despite his surprise, he felt his heart relax, so that was what Yuto had been worried about all night long.
“Keito?” Yuto asked again, breaking the older boy out of his thoughts.
“No….. Yuto…. The only thing I regret… is that I haven’t told you “I love you” enough… otherwise you would never ask me such a stupid question.” Keito smiled as he pulled Yuto closer.
“I’m sorry I asked then……” Yuto mumbled quietly as he smiled his first peaceful smile of the night and rest his head against Keito’s shoulder. He felt its familiar firmness and his body relaxed. He had been so afraid that Keito would leave him because he couldn’t stand the public eye bearing down upon them.
“Yuto?”
“Hm?”
“Is that….. all you were worried about?”
“Yes…..” Yuto blushed as he himself suddenly felt so childish and stupid for even worrying about it.
“Yuto… I love you…… I love you SO much… why would you ever think such a thing…. Just because those people out there want to get in and pry into our lives, doesn't mean that we should let them change anything….” Keito smiled his all-knowing smile, and Yuto nodded.
“I promise you… Yuto Nakajima….. MY Yuto Nakajima… that it will be alright… “ Keito said with a firm resolve…. And this time…. Yuto believed him.
The wind outside their window howled, carrying with it the sound of the reporters chattering away with each other, but now…. It didn't matter. Keito was sure of his feelings, and Yuto was as well.
“Let’s go to sleep okay? We’ll deal with it tomorrow.” Keito said as he pulled the covers over their bodies and they closed their eyes, their bodies entangled together with only the slightest smiles showing on their faces, they fell asleep.
The next morning, Yuto woke up early, he smiled as he noticed Keito had reverted to his usual position, hugging a pillow with his hair tussled by the night’s tossing and turning. He even noticed the small little bit of drool that would dribble out of the corners of his mouth.
“You big baby…” Yuto giggled as he pulled on a small robe and snuck downstairs to cook breakfast.
When he got downstairs, Yuto pulled out the ingredients he needed from the refrigerator, and as he passed the small window that rested above the sink, he peeked outside to see the small tents that were pitched on the streets outside and sighed as he shook his head. By the time Yuto had cracked the eggs and thrown in everything he needed to make his special omelets, he felt a pair of strong arms wrap around his waist as they lifted him and he giggled happily, bringing the pan with him.
“To the counter!” He cheered and he heard Keito giggle as the older boy lifted him with ease and set him before the counter just a few steps away.
“Good morning….” Keito said as he hugged Yuto again, his head resting on the boy’s shoulder, intently watching as the younger began to put the final garnishes on the plate..
“Good morning….” Yuto said back as he offered Keito a small slice of carrot with his chopsticks.
“Delicious…” Keito smiled as Yuto turned around in the boy’s arms and kissed him. Yuto grabbed the plate in one hand and breaking their kiss, smiled as he walked to the table and set the plate down.
“Itadakimasu!” Keito cheered as he took a piece of the eggs and though for a second before bringing them to his mouth. Just before the eggs touched his lips, he quickly changed and stuffed the bit into Yuto’s mouth, making him giggle in surprise. They took turns feeding each other, their feelings growing stronger with every bite.
“I like our life like this….” Keito said as he finished the last bit of the omelet Yuto had in his chopsticks.
“Sou desu ne? I like it too…its…..”
“Peaceful” They said in unison.
“Then…. Isn’t it good that we can do this in public now?” Keito asked
“I….. suppose it is ne?” Yuto thought for a moment.
“Then what are we waiting for?” Keito grabbed his boyfriend’s hand and ran upstairs. Within moments the two boys were dressed and standing before their front door, this time no longer afraid of what awaited them on the other side.
“Are you ready……. Boyfriend?” Keito teased.
Yuto rolled his eyes but giggled all the same as he threw on his jacket and when their hands met, Keito turned the knob and the blinding light of day embraced their clasped hands.
“Everyone….. what you have heard about the relationship between Nakajima-kun and I…. is absolutely…. Positively…. TRUE!” Keito shouted to which the reporters began to shutter away at pictures.
“Is that what you wanted to say?” Keito asked as he turned to face Yuto and their free hands joined.
“Exactly what I wanted to say” Yuto nodded happily as the two boys kissed for all the world to see.
“Only you know what’s in my heart Keito… and I know you’ll understand me best… only you can say the things that I’ve buried deep within, and only you can show me happiness…..”
The words had found meaning once again for Keito, and looking at Yuto’s smiling face he smiled as he knew what was in the boy’s heart.
“I love you…..”
