I have only been on the internet intermittently in the last couple of weeks, and somehow missed the news of Eva Ibbotson dying. I will miss having new Ibbotson books to read.

In other news though, I was recently surprised to learn that Mary Stewart, writer of the romance/adventure/mystery novels I have been gobbling up while living in the UK is ( Read more... )

I think Stewart has some quite terrible titles, and I find them hard to keep in my head. But recent ones I have read and enjoyed include Madam, will you talk? and My brother Michael. I'm pretty sure it's not just because they are set in warm France and Greece, respectively :)

Funny you should mention Mary Stewart. papersky was posting about her novel The Ivy Tree (one of my faves) and I wondered then whether she was still alive. Good for her!

I always loved The Gabriel Hounds.

I had no idea Mary Stewart was still alive! For some insane reason I assumed she'd died decades ago.

Yes, I tend to not worry so much about buying second hand vs new books when an author is dead (though when the 60s versions are SO CUTE I obviously must buy second hand) and had Stewart in that category until I read her Wikipedia page and realised there was no date of death :)
