Got up this morning,
kathrynt and the wee girlie came to fetch me and the little lad, and we headed off to shop at
Madrona Fiber Arts Retreat. I'd have loved to take some of the classes, but it just wasn't going to happen this year what with the babies and all.
So!
The buttons and shawl pins from the
Ernsts are lovely. Sadly, they didn't have any of the spindles, about which I was very curious. But I got a beautiful button that's going to get turned into the centerpiece of a necklace, I think. The circular needles looked very interesting and had great sharp points but I didn't think they'd last long in my home, so I passed.
Managed to not buy any
Socks That Rock because every time I went to get a skein off of the display, it was Fire on the Mountain. And I have a huge wrap in that colorway and don't need any more of it. Was unable to resist some slubby rayon in a coral-to-pinks color, though. Noticed as I was paying that part of the hank exactly matched my shirt. Yep. Me, predictable?
Somehow I can never find the
Chasing Rainbows colors that I drool over on the website. Or maybe they're just brighter, clearer colors on my monitor, and I get to them in person and say "that's not what I wanted." Did, however, end up with silk brick in Morning Glory and cashmere/tussah in Hydrangea. Going to spindle-spin the latter for sure so that I get to touch it as much as possible. :-) Also ended up with 8 ounces of red Corriedale pencil roving from Crown Mountain, because I kept thinking about it through two trips around the room and a couple of nursing breaks.
Found some red yarn from
Fancy Image that made me say "argh, why did I get this other stuff to make a red hat for Wm, because *this* is perfect!" Got enough for a wee sweater instead, since the hat is nearly done.
Apparently today was all about the reds, and hand-dyed things.
And I'm leaving this last outside the cut because OH! THE! CUTE! A pattern for a Fair Isle knit tea cozy with
I'm a Little Teapot on it. Just two balls of yarn!
We ran into the
Yarn Harlot and I mentioned that Wm was the one she'd handed needles to on her last Seattle visit and she said "you made him so BIG!" She must meet so many people and I'm sure she only dimly remembers us from trip to trip but she is always so gracious and delightful. We also ran into
aswego and her mom; we really need to plan some hangout time.
A while after I got home,
wrog headed out for a meeting, so the two little guys and I went to the mall for energy burn-off and dinner. While in Lush (where I had to physically restrain Pip so that he would stop rubbing the bath bombs and licking his fingers) we ran into
beki and family. It's been nearly 10 years since we worked together (I quit in July, 1997) -- and her daughter I remember as a teensy baby is now amazingly tall and grown-up. Wm clunked out in the stroller for a bit and woke up just after I ordered my meal. And he cried a bit on waking, as they do. And that in turn got Pip upset, and he said "daddy? daddy!" After we got home he looked around and said "D A D D Y daddy. Daddy!" Poor fellow thinks he's stuck with the screamy kid and crazy lady. :-)
