Wheeeeee

kathrynt and I managed to arrange to have an evening out without the babies. We've been wanting to go to a Jonathan Coulton show for a while, but the past times he's been in town have been right after babies were born or when highly pregnant or some other thing that made it impossible to go. But this time we said "babies are old enough for an evening with ( Read more... )

You should have told him that you're the one that got me onto his music!

I had a similar reaction, wondering if I knew people in the audience.

Yeah, I thought of that, but then I wasn't entirely sure if I remembered that correctly. Kathryn suggested I offer to be his Pretend Millionaire Girlfriend.

We were sure we'd have to know *someone* there, it was a gathering of Dork Nation.

I was totally going to namedrop you, but there were so many people there, he kind of got mobbed. Plus there was the whole clearing-people-out for the metally-named surf band.

Dara and I did not know this show was going to happen. Sniff. Otherwise we totally would have gone!

Clearly, we're going to have to pay attention to his show schedule!

Next time I'll point it out. He is going to be at Penny Arcade Expo, so there will be a show in August, maybe one before then if we're lucky!

Yeah, technoshaman gave me the dates for PAX, but we'll have to see whether we can make that--that's dangerously close to Worldcon, and assuming Dara and I still get to go to that this year, it's highly likely we'll spend extra time. 'Cause, well, Japan!

But if you get other data, do please pass it along! :)

Oh, my. I'd heard of him before, but hadn't listened to any of his music until now (sitting around the empty office, waiting for my synthesis to be ready=good opportunity to waste time). It's... exactly the music I would write, if I could write songs.

It was one of those gathering of the tribes of Dork Nation kind of events. Someone took video of the show and is posting it to YouTube, starting here.

I think when I first encountered him, he had me at the line "you're one badass fucking fractal."

Oh, icon reminds me: the baby found one of the two brain slugs I made for Halloween and it is one of his favorite toys. The legs and antennae are now very sad and droopy and if it wasn't superwash, I'd expect to see some felting by now. I think he particularly likes the high contrast eye.

... and within the past less-than-hour, I've hooked my dad and husband. I can see how it's a good Dork Nation test, too: you play someone a song and see how long it takes for their eyes to get all gleamy.

Aw, you can call Wm the brain slug's brain slug.
