When P does his daily handwriting practice, he always asks to write "Philip says hello to Lily. Lily says hello to Philip." Clearly we were discussing betrothal with the wrong son.

Today we went to the Cougar Mountain Zoo. They have tiger cubs, 9 and 12 weeks old. ZOMG the cute. They bring them out for show and play twice a day (currently 1 and 4 ( Read more... )

I KNOW! And it seems like a few days ago he could stand up under mom's piano and now he can reach the keys if he stretches.

Do you get brief but torrential rains there? My cousin just moved to TN (somewhere outside of Nashville, brand new construction) and they've had part of their driveway wash out, the sod from their lawn went down the street, and the creek in their backyard will suddenly rise by 4 feet and then go back to normal. I wondered it that was normal for TN or if they're just really badly situated.

Hope things are calm and quiet.

Lemme see. Brief but torrential rains - check. Sometimes daily.

Tough to say if the washouts and disappearing sod are normal or not, or due to badly-graded driveway or generally bad lot situation. I will say that I wouldn't live halfway up ANYTHING here, or at the bottom of anything. Dad's right on top of a mountain, and when it rains the rocks by the side of the twisty mountain road produce very pretty waterfalls. Tough to say, Emma, but the rainfall and the sudden creek rise/drop - those are VERY normal.

My poor cousin. She's never lived anywhere but a small part of California (well, she was born in Florida, but doesn't remember it). I don't think she was prepared at all for *weather*. And combining that with first time home ownership...

Luckily there's a 1 year "warranty" and fixing the driveway and lawn are someone else's financial responsibility. But her daughter is scared by the storms and now afraid to play in the back yard because of the creek issue.
