bad news, good news?

kathrynt and I sang Mahler's 8th with the Seattle Symphony tonight. Benaroya Hall is right across the street from the shiny new Washington Mutual Tower, where they have their HQ, and we park in their parking garage. When we arrived, channel 4 had a van parked on the street outside Benaroya, I thought maybe they were doing a piece on the 10th anniversary of ( Read more... )

How did they fit everyone on that stage? Alex and I are going to be going on Sunday. I hope she likes it.

They built the stage out another dozen-twenty feet.

They've built it outwards, covering several rows of audience chairs. All of the strings are pretty much beyond the usual edge of the stage. They had to build more risers for the chorus, too. It's a huge undertaking, almost like planning an invasion.

what was it, two weeks ago? a week ago? when wamu said "oh, we're well capitalised and we're solid," i remember saying something about how it was akin to a hollywood celebrity saying "i do not need rehab!"

There was a poster in the lobby I didn't see but Kathryn thought was hilarious given the news, we hope it's still there tomorrow so we can take a photo though it will probably go away today.

Eeeeeeeh! Mahler 8! Yummy. I'm glad it went well. Being part of one of the big Mahler symphonies is still one of the coolest things I've ever done. It must be awesome to be in the choir though! Being surrounded by all those people belting out the same stuff as you... Cool.

It's a blast. So far I've been involved in performances of symphonies 2 (3 times), 3 and 6 (twice each) and now 8. Unless I start playing again, it's mostly only 2 and 3 from here on out (unless I train my voice a lot and miraculously land a gig doing 4). It's always so fun, even the parts where we don't sing we've got the best seats in the house.

Wow! I'm thrilled for you! (and impressed, and if being entirely honest, a wee bit envious ;) )

Wish we lived closer so we could go see it. :)
