Amazon says the stuff from last week's surprises post (yeah, was unable to limit it to one) has shipped. Did I remember to put in a note? Pretty much not. D'oh!
I learned the very beginnings from my mom, so I never started with a super-beginner's book, but one I've seen since that looked really good to me was Melanie Falick's Kids Knitting. If you're a particularly visual learner, knittinghelp.com has TONS of great videos showing how to do most of the things you need to do to knit pretty much anything. Once beyond the super-basics, Knitting Without Tears is really good for realizing you're the boss of your knitting. This one is good for making your projects look hand-crafted rather than homemade, if you know what I mean.
Not originally my idea, but it was surprisingly fun to look through people's wishlists and say "ooh, that book is awesome!" *click* I'm going to have to do it again sometime, maybe it can become an equinox tradition. I don't like shopping for obligatory gifts (the passel of family gifts at Christmas makes me crazy), but I really enjoy giving people things. Sort of an odd combination.
Of course, a lot of my LJ friends (well, the ones I didn't know prior to LJ) are knitters, so there was a lot of wishlist overlap in the fiber arts area...
Oh my! I've wanted this movie for years and just never got around to getting it! I put it on my wish list hoping that Joe would find it for a suitable holiday. Now I don't have to wait anymore! *does the happy musical dance*

I've decided I'm going to learn how to knit--any tips? Good books, kits, etc, you'd guide me toward?
