Pip loves watching videos, but has a tendency to wreck DVDs. I've been buying downloads for movies he likes, but we have a few things that aren't available to buy as downloads that I'd like to (edit:getconvert from DVD) into digital form before they get broken. I just wanted to weigh in on the ethics here. Y'all are in the right. There is no theft occurring. Transferring media from a DVD that was purchased to a format that will be used in the same way as the DVD (ie, home use) in order to make the content accessible to the entire family is morally and ethically sound unless you ask Ayn Rand.

In case you wanted to hear someone outside your head say it.

Oh, ethically I've got no problem with it at all. I mean, even as a semi-professional musician I do it with my purchased CDs all the time.

Legally... well, I'm sure Disney would have something to say about it, but it's nothing of theirs we're converting anyhow. :-)
