Trip Report: Yachats 2014

Eli and I are returning even now, via Amtrak, from our week at the beach. Beautiful photos! The Oregon coast is stunning in the sunshine. Which is rare.

I assume you have read Mike Love's Gimme Refuge? If not, you might enjoy it. http://nestuccaspitpress.com/gimme-refugegimme-refuge

PS, how did you get from Yachets to the train? Rental car, or is there some other transport available?

The Oregon Coast is *always* stunning (but, yes, rarely so sunny) emmarytz September 7 2014, 06:36:54 UTC
I don't know "Gimme Refuge" but it sounds like the sort of book that would have me gnashing my teeth in envy. I have enough trouble working on the books published by Mountaineers Books--all these stories of people who weary of their 9 to 5 jobs and so go off to live in the woods instead. Have they no mortgages? Cats? Bulbs to plant?

We took the train to Salem and then picked up a rental car there and drove the car to Salem, by way of the Basket Slough and Van Duzer Winery. If I have time tomorrow or the next day I'll likely post some stuff about that portion of the trip as well. I'm sure that an extremely patient and lightly luggaged person could work out a way to do the whole trip without a car but I'm not that person.
