"Hey. Come here." He opened his arms, and she rolled over to rest her head on his chest, still panting slightly from their recent lovemaking. He held her tight to him, and kissed her hair.
"So... engaged sex is even better than dating sex, as far as I'm concerned."
"Definitely better. Not that I've had any complaints before."
She smirked. "Me neither, baby."
Her left hand ran gently on the soft hair on his chest, and she took a moment to stare at the new addition on her finger, and waved her hand a bit to get used to the new weight, the stone flickering in the dim light of their bedroom, its meaning more and more real to her with every passing minute. She felt his fingers softly going through her hair, and looked up.
"We're getting married."
He nodded, his eyes welling up. "We are."
His head bowed down, and he met her for a long kiss, his thumb running on her ring, as if he wanted to make sure it was still there, she was still there. Her lips tugged into a smile, and she moved to kiss his cheek and his earshell.
"It's there to stay." She was whispering in his ear, how she had managed to read his mind he wasn't really sure, but he just closed his clasp on her tighter, and inhaled the mixture of shampoo, perfume and skin he had learnt to recognize as her scent, kissing her neck.
"I'm here to stay." Her whispers sent shivers down his spine. "I love you." She pinched his earlobe between her lips for a second. "This is where I'm supposed to be."
He couldn't suppress a sob as he pulled her fully over him, his biceps closing around her shoulders, kissing her hair as she placed her ear over his heart. One of her hands sneaked up to caress his face, and she felt his wet cheeks. "My God, you're such a wimp."
He heard her giggling before his fingers could even begin to find her sides, and he got ready to tickle his male pride back, his heart bursting with happiness.
-------
He entered the wardrobe as she was slipping on a pair of jeans, and nodded his approval at the sight of her legs. "You know, pants are definitely overrated."
"Hm? You think? Didn't wanna swap from my skirt to Emma's one, feels repetitive."
"Oh, skirts are overrated too."
She raised an eyebrow at his look in the mirror, turning around and winding her arms around his neck. "No pants, no skirt... what do you suggest, smartie?"
He opened her jeans a little bit, the fly still down. "I like these." His index finger poked her panties, and she shivered lightly.
"Not sure that'd be an appropriate work attire, you know."
He grinned, leaning down to kiss her. "Damn it... stupid work."
She pulled back after a little while, and took his hand. "Can we talk for a minute?"
"Sure. What's up?"
"I was just wondering. What do we say to people?"
"People?"
"Yeah, you know. Family, friends, work. About... us."
He looked at an indefinite point over her head. "What do you want to say?"
"Umh... the truth? But I don't wanna mess anything up."
"There's nothing to mess up. Not like we're doing anything wrong."
"I know, Matt. I just... should we call our PRs first and check with them?"
He slid down on the wall to sit against the wardrobe door, and pulled her down to his lap. "Normally, I'd tell you yes, we should." He took her hand, and entwined their fingers. "But once in a while, don't you just feel the need to just say, fuck it?" His face and voice softened as his eyes rested on her. "I don't wanna lie about the one thing that's made me happier than I ever thought possible."
She stared at him for a moment, a serious look on her face. "Okay."
"Okay." He chuckled. "Thank God because I've already told Jane."
"You what? Matthew!"
"I'm sorry sweetie, she caught me in my trailer yesterday and I was kinda freaking out so I told her. She made me promise to text her. I forgot last night- you were definitely distracting..." -she smirked silently- "and this morning I found a text with fifteen question marks and nothing else."
"Really? Aw, she's so sweet. What did you tell her?"
"I just texted 'Yes' and she answered with about a hundred exclamative points."
She giggled, and got to her feet, holding out her hands for him. "Come on, happy boy. I feel like we might use some extra early time on the lot this morning."
-------
They entered an unusually quiet green room, smiling at the few crew members who were helping themselves to some breakfast, nobody paying too much attention to either.
Their fellow cast members started filing in the room about ten minutes later, some alone, some in small groups talking and laughing, sleepy but as usual pumped for the work day ahead. Jane was one of the last to arrive. She spotted them at a corner table, and walked over, a huge smile on her face.
"Guys... you have no idea how happy I am!" She leaned forward and hugged first Matt and then Jayma, but kept her voice low. "Is it out yet? Did you tell?"
"Not yet. We were waiting for everyone to arrive..."
"Jay, you're gonna have to tell me all the details later... as soon as this one is off somewhere."
"Hey!" Matt's lips mockingly curved into a pout, and Jayma's left hand reached over to squeeze his cheeks. "Aww, no pouting."
"OHMYGOD!!!"
Everyone looked startled at Amber, whose scream had pierced the quietness of the room, and who was now standing with a hand on her chest, huge eyes, a paper cup of coffee splashed all over the floor, her other hand pointed in their direction, as they exchanged puzzled looks, not quite sure about what was going on.
"OHMYGODOHMYGOD!!! Her hand! GUYS!!!!" She gestured for Lea and Jenna to look over, but it was Dianna who first caught on to her excitement.
"Guys! Is that...?" In three strides she reached them and took Jayma's left hand. "It IS, isn't it?? Did he... did you... Oh my GOD!!!"
Matt and Jayma exchanged a quick look, and burst into laughter. He got to his feet, his best Mr Schue voice ready. "Okay, settle down, settle down guys!"
Excited screams and laughs lowered of an inch, and he pulled her up by her hand. "We were waiting for most everyone to be here to tell." He chuckled. "Thanks to Amber's scream, I think there are some people over from the House lot too now." Amber giggled, embarassed, and he circled Jayma's waist, laying a kiss on her flushed cheek.
"Last night I asked this beautiful, amazing woman to marry me. For some kind of temporary insanity, she said yes... we're getting married!"
The amount of cheers, clapping, whistling and high-fiving was deafening, and he buried his face in the side of her neck for a moment, before everyone started approaching them with hugs and congratulations, all the girls huddled together to analyze and admire Jayma's ring.
He heard her say proudly "He picked it all by himself!" and grinned widely, cracking up as he saw Mark and Cory passing some bills to Brad. "Seriously, guys? You bet on this?"
Brad chuckled. "Yup. And it looks like I won... in your face, you two! They thought you'd wait for the summer break." He leaned closer, and added in an undertone "I may have noticed you looking up rings on your iPad the other week... Congrats, man, She's one of a kind."
Matt laughed and patted Brad's shoulder as his friend shook his hand warmly. "She is. Thank you, Brad. We'll talk about how to split your gainings later."
"No way, buddy. These will go to a nice dinner with some nice lady."
Matt grinned his way through dozens of people- the news had spread quickly to the crew, who was pouring in the room- patting his back and shaking his hand, as he saw her with the corner of his eye, still showing off her ring, a smile so wide it was probably hurting her cheeks.
When he finally made his way over to her, she beamed at him, taking his hand and kissing his knuckles, as his other hand sneaked around her waist.
"Have you already picked a date?" Lea had been overcome with emotion and her eyes were watery.
Jayma smiled. "Not yet. It just happened last night. Consider yourself invited, though."
"Well. As long as you guys don't sing." Matt quipped, as everyone mockingly booed him.
After a while, Ryan looked at the big wall clock. "Guys, we gotta run!" He turned to the two of them. "Be around at lunchtime, you two. I see champagne in our future."
With a final round of cheers, they all went their separate ways, to start their busy day on the lot. He turned her in his arms, laying his lips on hers, softly. "I'll see you later?"
"Of course. Champagne, remember? And we've got to tell your and my folks." She grinned. "Your dad will flip."
He nodded, laughing, and with a final squeeze of her hand, set off to his trailer, humming quietly to himself.
-------
"...so you just told everyone? Just like that?"
She looked at him, slightly uneasy. "Well. Amber noticed the ring, actually. But yes. We were planning on telling them, so..."
Their respective PRs looked at each other, then Matt's one spoke. "Are you sure, guys? This could backfire, you know."
"Backfire?"
"Yes, Jay. You've been together for just a year. And your divorce was finalized just over six months ago."
She glanced at Matt, who hadn't said anything throughout their meeting, and was now leaned on the edge of the table, looking at his feet, his hands curled into fists. She scratched her throat. "So what? They're our friends. We wanted to tell them."
"Of course you did. I'm just saying-"
"Okay, this ends here and now." Matt's voice was low, his head still bowed. "We appreciate your concern, I mean it, and we're perfectly aware of the situation. I think I can speak for the both of us when I say we can handle it." He took her hand. "Together."
Matt's publicist looked like she wanted to answer, but then just shrugged her shoulders. "Okay. Thanks for letting us know, we'll be prepared. And again, congratulations, guys."
They smiled, and got to the door, a car waiting for them outside to bring them to LAX and their weekend in New York.
-------
"What?" The sound of music and people talking all together was deafening.
"I said, I've never been to a hockey game before!"
"First time for everything, right?"
They got to their reserved seats after stacking up on chips, soda and a beer for Matt. She had never even been inside Madison Square Garden before, and kept looking around at the people, the pre-game show, breathing in the whole atmosphere. Jeez, was it cold. She closed her scarf a bit more around her neck, shivering lightly. He pulled her closer, and rubbed her arm.
She got a bit bored with the game eventually, and resolved to look over at him, the adorable way he shouted and got overexcited every time his team was attacking. During a dull moment, her left hand sneaked her way up and she stole his baseball cap jokingly, keeping it out of his reach for a moment, before he circled her waist and pulled her on his lap. "You're making me miss parts of the game, missy."
"Sorry. I got bored. I'll behave." She was giggling, and he took his moment to snatch his cap back, kissing her neck and jaw at the same time.
"My fiancèe doesn't appreciate hockey, I see?" He remarked that word, revelling in the way her eyes lit up. "I'll make up to her with a great dinner somewhere special, I guess." He bit her right arm jokingly. "Though I'm not hungry for food myself..."
She gasped, a tingling sensation where his teeth had gently grazed her through the layers of clothing, and leaned back on his chest. "Hm, suddenly I like this game much more."
-------
They were met with flashes on their way to dinner. "Hey guys... guys, can you stop for a second please?"
"Sorry guys, we have dinner reservations." His grip on her hand was tighter, and he accelerated his walk a little bit.
"Is that what we think it is?" A paparazzi was taking shots of Jayma's left hand. "Jayma? You engaged?"
He finally answered as they got into a car waiting for them. "What do you think, guys? Have a good night."
As they drove into Manhattan, he took her hands. "Jeez. I've never been haunted by paps here in New York before."
"Guess someone noticed the ring at the game and made a call..."
"Well. I suppose it's out now."
She giggled, feeling slightly exhilarated. "Guess it is." She caressed his cheek. "I love you."
"I love you too, baby..." He kissed her palm. "So, I was wondering. What are you doing on September 3rd?"
Her heartbeat accelerated. "...nothing?"
"Cool. Because I was thinking it could be a nice day to get married." His grin had reached his eyes, and he observed every emotion, from surprise, to disbelief, to excitement and love flicker across her face. "What do you say?"
"September 3rd..." She wound her arms around his neck. "Sounds perfect." Her lips grazed his ear. "So September 3rd is the day I become Jayma Morrison, then?"
He gasped and pulled away. "Really?"
She giggled. "Well. Not for work, it could be a little confusing. But for life... yes. The rest of my life, I was thinking."
His chuckles reverberated in her chest, and he laid his lips on every inch of her face. "Sounds like a plan."
