"Hey Jayma!"
"Hey, Matthew! How are you doing?"
"Oh, you know. The usual." He waved his script in her direction. "Ready to say yes to me?"
She grinned. The proposal episode was starting production that day. "Ha! And who says I'll even say yes, mister?"
"Aren't we funny today..." He chuckled when she stuck out her tongue at him. "I'm pretty sure the script does, missy."
"We'll see. If you behave." She winked cheekily, and turned around, headed to her trailer. He couldn't help but admire her figure from behind, those ripped jeans that made her ass look incredible. Will Schuester, you lucky bastard.
"Matt?" She was waving at him from her trailer door, and he shook his head to break his daydreaming. "I was wondering if you had time to run through our scene at the apartment? It's an intense one, and I want it to be perfect."
He nodded, and walked to her. "Sure, no problem. I'm not due to dance rehearsals for another forty minutes anyway."
She smiled, grateful. He was always happy to run lines in between scenes, even in his most hectic days- and his schedule was always far crazier than hers. She held his gaze for a few moments, enthralled by the warmth his eyes conveyed, and then gestured at him to sit down at the table in front of her.
"Okay, so..." He flicked through the pages. "From here? 'Hi - Hi - Almost done'?"
She nodded. "Yeah. if you don't mind."
"Not at all. Go ahead."
"Hi"
"Hi! Almost done."
"You started taking the tree out on New Year's Day...."
"Have a seat."
They rehearsed for a while, and each time he found himself enchanted by the intensity of her voice and expressions at the "With so much love for you" line. She was such an incredible actress, and he was so lucky to be working so closely with her.
She noticed he was lost in thoughts again, and waved a hand in front of his face, amused. "Matt? Hello? You still with me?"
He blinked several times. "Yes! Sorry. I'm here."
"You seem kind of... distracted today." She smiled, cheekily. "New girlfriend keeping you up all night?"
He laughed, feeling his ears turn red. "Yeah, sometimes that's the case. Not last night though, I was all alone."
"Oh." Why did she feel some kind of weird satisfaction at that? As if she cared who he went home with. "Hope everything's good between you."
He nodded. "Yeah, we're good. She's great. I just... once in a while, I just really need to be on my own, you know? And think." He looked down at the script for a second, and then at her, worry in his eyes. "I wish I knew, you know. If she's the one or not. I know it's silly, but all these marriage talks on the show are getting to my head."
She nodded, prompting him to continue, feeling, again, the need to know exactly what he meant, as if for some reason an important part of her life depended on it.
"Will says he's had to stop himself from proposing from the first time he saw Emma... now, don't get me wrong. I can definitely see what he saw in her-" he raised an eyebrow suggestively, and she giggled. Why was she flirting? "-but I just... I'm not sure I felt like that with her. Or I ever will. I love her, I guess I do, it's just... I don't know." He ran his hands through his hair, and let go of a groan of frustration. "Aaaargh! I can't believe I'm letting my fictional character influence me this much." He laid a hand on her forearm. "Forgive me. You wanted to run lines and here I am, complaining about my pathetic life." He squeezed her arm for a second, and then let go. "Okay. Lines. I'm ready."
She felt a blush creep over her face and neck, and lowered her gaze, her skin burning where he had touched her. What is going on??
They separated a few minutes later, Matt headed to dance rehearsals, Jayma to a dress fitting.
"See you later! I'll be the one in the top hat." He joked, his lopsided smile making her grin.
She stopped on her way to pick up a mug of green tea, and sat down for a second. He was charming, there was no denying. And they had a great chemistry, that was why everyone rooted for Will and Emma. Latey, though, she felt as if things were changing. They had a lot of scenes together, more than they had for over a year, and it was just... different. She felt herself blushing whenever he so much as looked at her, and felt tingles in her stomach when she knew a scene with him was approaching. She realized she longed for their talks, and inside jokes, and his grin when it was directed at her.
She sighed deeply. That was nothing. He was just a friend, and they spent a lot of time together. That was it. Nothing else.
-----
Matt looked at the time. They had finalized their "Moves Like Jagger" dance earlier, and were now about to start shooting in the auditorium. It'd probably take them the rest of the afternoon, and very likely part of the following morning. And he also had to shoot some dance scenes on his own... it would be a very long week. But then again, he loved being able to dance on the show.
They shot the scene multiple times, having to stop twice because someone had messed up their steps, but he didn't care. He was doing what he loved best, and having a blast with Kevin and Harry.
At dinnertime, the kids were called to the tin shed for the "We found love" number, but he didn't leave the stage, and kept trying new steps, different variations to his solo part. It wasn't until almost an hour later that he noticed a redhead watching him from a seat in the middle rows.
"Jayma?" He shielded his eyes from the stagelights, and looked over. "What are you doing here?"
Crap. Busted. "Oh, hi, Matt." She got up, heading towards the aisle. "Nothing, I was around here and thought I'd sneak in to rehearsals... I didn't mean to bother you." She turned to the exit. "I'll go."
"No, no, hey." In a second he had jumped off the stage and was at her side. "I don't mind having you here. It's okay." He laid a hand on her shoulder, and then moved along her arm to take her hand. "I would love it if you stayed. I was planning on grabbing a bite to eat when I'm done here, would you like to join me?"
She stared down at their linked hands, dumbfounded, and then at him. His face cracked in a huge grin when he noticed how wide her eyes were.
"Um, I don't want to be a bother, really..."
"I'm telling you, you're not. Come on!" He dragged her to the front row, and climbed back on stage. "Just let me get this step down and I'll be good to go, okay?"
She nodded, speechless at this point, and watched as he rinsed his forehead on a towel and took a sip of water, his muscular arms and back flexing with every little movement. Her mouth felt dry.
-----
"Thanks for dinner, Matt. And thanks for showing me to this new place."
He grinned as they walked to her car in the parking lot on set. "No problem. I will see you tomorrow, ready to cry."
She giggled. "I will be. Have a goodnight!"
He touched her shoulder gently, and looked straight in her eyes. a serious gaze. "You too." He squeezed her shoulder. "Goodnight, Jay."
She looked over as he walked back to his car, and then started the engine. What was going on in her head??
-----
Matt shot a quick text to his girlfriend, telling her he was on his way to her place. Things were fine between them, she was incredible, and they were happy. So why did he feel lightheaded every time Jayma so much as looked at him? He exhaled deeply, lost in thoughts. They were friends. That he was sure about. And she made him laugh more than most people. He trusted her, and they talked all the time. She was pretty- screw that, she was hot. Red hair and big Bambi eyes, and those legs. And that... ass. God her ass, especially when her Emma skirts hugged it the right way.
He gulped audibly, and gripped the steering wheel tighter. He hadn't had sex in two days. That was it. Easily fixed in a short while. Yeah, that was definitely it.
-----
Shooting for the episode was going at high rhythms. And this was the day of the actual proposal. They had shot most of the "We Found Love" number during the previous day and in the morning, and now, all that was left to do for the scene was for him to walk on water, dive, and propose. And he felt his heart leap in his throat at the thought.
He had proposed once, in real life, years ago- and that had ended in disaster. But he was more nervous now, for a fake proposal, than he ever was back then. Jayma was so beautiful in that blue dress. He looked at the script, his big speech, and the kiss at the end. How he even got paid to kiss her he would never know.
-----
"I make it a little emotional, you know. This is a big moment for..." me "...the character, this is a scene we've been building towards for three years, so it's a very big deal..."
She kept on talking for the behind-the-scenes video, until Matt approached her, and got up, holding the microphone.
"Hi Matt..."
Why was she using such a sweet voice? She'd drive him crazy. He grinned widely. "Hi Jayma..."
"You look nice." Seriously, girl? Flirting on camera?
He checked her out. "As do you."
"Are you excited about proposing to me?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
She shook her head at the camera, feeling her cheeks burst into flames. "So coy."
He chuckled, his hands deep in his pants pockets, and she noticed his face turning red.
"You're blushing! So cute."
They talked for a while, joking and flirting with each other. The crew that was shooting them kept exchanging looks, their chemistry was more than obvious to everyone, and some even wondered if they had ever been more than friends.
"So in the script it says that we are to have the most romantic, most perfect kiss ever to be captured on film. How do you feel about that?"
Like my pants are getting too tight? "Well, I think in the script it also says that you initiate it, so it's your job to give the most passionate, most amazing kiss ever caught on film."
Crap. "Oh, okay. Well I just need one take for that."
"Oh, okay." He smiled. "I might need ten." He tilted his head to the right, grinning widely to the camera, a dorky expression that made her laugh, and blush violently.
"Uh oh... guys..." She touched her hair, another flirty, cheeky gesture that made him want to grab her and kiss her right at that moment.
-----
They were reshooting the scene for the fourth time, and he was just changing into a dry version of his white suit. Everything had gone smoothly, but they needed more angles for the kiss. Not that he was complaining about that.
The director yelled "Action!", and he neared the edge of the pool, and walked on the transparent surface. He was so handsome. How many guys could pull off a white tail suit and a top hat, and still look that hot? She gulped as he widened his arms, grinning, and watched carefully as he dove in the pool once again. So handsome.
For the fourth time that day, she had to restrain herself from reaching out and running a hand through his wet curls as he emerged from the water, his hair stuck to his forehead, making him look like a wet puppy dog.
He delivered his beautiful, heartfelt speech, with so much emotion in his eyes and voice that she could hardly keep herself from bursting into tears. Maybe she was coming down with something. Some kind of flu. That made him look cuter to her than ever before. His thumb gently carressed the back of her hand, and she felt goosebumps on her skin.
"I love you so much." His breath faltered. Why couldn't this be real life? Why couldn't he be honest about the way he felt?
He grinned widely, his eyes sparkling. "Is that a yes?"
She nodded. "Yes... yes... yes, yes!!" When he saw her, half laughing, half crying, he couldn't help but lean closer, and kiss her deeply, even though he knew she had to initiate it. He didn't care. He was just so glad he was supposed to kiss her anyway, because he didn't know how he would have restrained otherwise.
They cut the scene, and got back to just the kiss a few more times. She felt her cheeks go crimson the more they spent time so close to each other. When he accidentally got too close, her knees bumped in his lap, and she felt something that definitely reminded her of an arousal. She pulled back, her eyes wide, and he sheepishly looked down at her legs, the tips of his ears turning red.
They shot a couple more angles, mostly of the kids cheering, and then they were off. He got into a bathrobe and headed towards his trailer, that was right outside the pool area, cursing himself. She had felt him. She was married. What would she think now? God. He couldn't control himself five more minutes, could he? She was married. Married.
He remembered his erection during "Touch-a Touch-me", but at least there she hadn't noticed. Or so he had always hoped. She always seemed willing to change the subject when their talks came to that scene.
Lost in his musings, he quickly got out of his wet suit, and retrieved a pair of dry boxers and a towel for his hair. He was just about to get some clothes on when he heard a knock on his trailer door.
Closing the robe a bit tighter, towel around his neck, he opened the door. "Jayma? What's up?"
She looked skittish, nervous. Her eyes were huge and filled with something he couldn't quite place. She stepped inside, and closed the door behind her, her eyes running over his bathrobe-covered body.
"I just realized something." She stepped a bit closer, and took the robe tie in her hands. "We haven't followed the script."
Completely confused at this point, he looked at her hands fiddling with the fabric. "What... what do you mean?"
"I mean-" She pulled at the tie a little, and the knot got looser. "That I was supposed to initiate the kiss. But I didn't. You did, every single time."
He gulped. "Listen, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to take over, I just went with the flow, you know? It felt right at that moment, and... hmppph." Further words were silenced by her right index finger on his lips.
"I didn't come here to complain." She got even closer, impossibly so, and for the first time in his life, he felt like his knees wouldn't hold him much longer. Before he could realize it, she kissed him. Hard, and deep, her hands running through his wet hair, her tongue dancing in his mouth. He had never been kissed like that.
He circled her waist with his hands, rubbing his thumbs over her sides, and then she had pulled the tie all the way, and was taking his robe off, gently carressing his shoulders, biting his neck, and he felt his eyes roll in the back of his head.
He backed a little, until the back of his knees hit the little sofa he kept in his trailer, and then she was in his lap, writhing and teasing, and all he could do was kiss her back, as forcefully and passionately as he knew how, any thought of husbands and girlfriends and any implication wiped from his brain, as he started undressing her gently.
_______
Little one-shot. Hope you enjoyed!
Now seriously, how amazing was "Yes/No"? And the BTS video? Rewatching them both on a loop.
Thanks to a friend of mine who prompted me to write this, and read in advance. :)
As usual, reviews are love.
