I get the egg thing - that actually makes perfect sense now you lay it out. I'd heard of it before but never really thought of it. But the one I've heard about camp coffee that is weird is swiping a fish skin through to remove impurities. (One presumes that this is camping near a river or lake.) That just sounds bad.

I love our automated coffee maker. I am so dependent on someone or something preparing coffee; I am in no fit state to make coffee before I've had coffee. No matter how simple the coffee making mechanism is! Of course, at this point in my life I've converted to drinking dripolator style coffee on a routine basis, which I never did in Australia. Took some getting used to, but it delivers the appropriate chemical kick with the least fuss, so it'll do.

Oddly enough, although I don't need coffee and almost never drink any, I make espresso every day (double-tall latte, low foam, two sweeteners) for my love, who does need coffee in the morning! (She's perfectly capable of making it herself, I just like doing it for her.)
