*ducks in under the line*

I'm using Interational Women's Day as an excuse to come out of hiding and steal this meme from chaila43. Juuust before the day is officially over, though this is really only a fannish celebration of ladies and thus incomplete!  I've attempted to ward off repetitiveness, but ahaha, we shall see.

Favorite lead female character: Leaving aside the "DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!!!!!!" part of this, it's currently Olivia Dunham, but I can't really get away from this one without giving a nod to Kara Thrace.

Favorite supporting female character: DW Ladies: River Song,  Martha Jones.

A female character you hated but grew to love: I wasn't really interested in Jool when she first showed up on Farscape, but I was very attached by the time she left the show (a reason why I sometimes hate Peacekeeper Wars before coming back around to reluctantly liking most of it again.)

A female character you relate to: Heh, when I was about 10 I know I related SO HARD with Meg Murray from a Wrinkle in Time, which I'm sure isn't uncommon among slightly awkward, bookish girls.  Now?  Maybe Dee on BSG on a personal level, but I honestly relate to most of the women on here in some way, even if it's only wishful. ;)

Favorite female character on a male-driven show: Dani Reese on Life.  I'm usually more a fan of ensemble shows, where this decision on both "male-driven" and favorite is much blurrier and more selective, but Dani's a great example of a really fabulous female character in a story that's absolutely All About A Dude.

Favorite female-driven show: Sarah Connor Chronicles for consistently being women-driven, smart, and continuing to surprise me every time I watch.

A female character that needs more screen time: Sophie on Leverage. ASTRID.

Favorite female character in a comedy show: I completely fail at this one, comedy shows are usually like pulling teeth for me.  I should probably give credit to Leslie Knope though, because as much I want to bury my head in a pillow during Parks and Recreation, I can't resist it because of her.

Favorite female character in a drama show: CJ Cregg on West Wing.  I love everything she is.

Favorite female character in a scifi/supernatural show: Seriously?  Can I just copy from favorite female character IN GENERAL to match what's 80% of what I watch?

Favorite female character in a children’s show: I'm going to develop a sudden aversion to copypasting answers from chaila43  here and go with Toph, because my love for her is so LOUD, EXCITED AND GLEEFUL.  On rewatch, I can never quite get over my need to skip everything to Season 2 when she shows up.

Favorite female character in a movie: Leia Organa from the Star Wars original trilogy.

Favorite female character in a book: Lauren Oya Olamina from Octavia Butler's Parables series who is my favorite narrator in existence.  If I stretch to YA, I have to give a nod to Ellie from the Tomorrow series.

Favorite older female character: Since I believe Laura Roslin counts, this one's unquestionably hers.

Favorite mother character: Sarah Connor, but I'll branch out a bit to Molly Weasley in Harry Potter.

Favorite warrior female character: Kara Thrace and Aeryn Sun might challenge each other for this spot.

Favorite non-warrior female character: (Unbelievably hard.) Meg Murray from the Time Quartet.

Favorite non-human female character: Caprica Six. <3

Favorite female antagonist: Azula on A:tLA

Favorite female character screwed over by canon: There's a whole group of BSG ladies I might fit here, but Laura Roslin take this one too.  For minor characters I loved, Hariet Jones on DW is basically the reason I nearly mutinied against the show in Ten's first episode.

Favorite female character you love but everyone else hates: I'm kind of surprised how much A:tLA is on here ( I blame all the new stuff out about Korra), but I really really love Mai, which is apparently...not so popular for ship-related reasons.

Favorite female platonic relationship: Willow and Buffy on B:tVS. I also desperately want Attolia and Eddis to have many scenes together of shared knowledge and wary friendship.

Favorite female romantic relationship: I haven't made it past Season 3 on Babylon 5, but I still really like Susan/Talia for basically being canon and missed potential.  Also, Cara/Kahlan on Legend of the Seeker, Jesse/Riley and huge crossover love for Kara/Aeryn and Sarah/Olivia.

Favorite mother/daughter and/or sister relationship: Aeryn and Xhalanx Sun from Farscape, Larkin and Lauren Olamina from the Parables Series (partly for how their relation is entirely defined through writing and simultaneously insightful and unreliable).  I hate how much I had to think about this one and I'm not coming with any sisters right now to my shame. Or non-irredeemably distant and/or broken relationships.  On the tip of my tongue. (ETA: Oh the March sisters from Little Women, of course!)

Favorite classical female character (from pre-20th century literature or mythology or the like): *draws a blank*

A female character you have extensive personal canon for: I've adopted many conflicting and separate canons for Kara Thrace's arc on Battlestar at different points, but my favorite is still probably grabbing on to the implications that she's the first hybrid and Daniel's daughter.  Which doesn't have to explain the weird mythology because, um, it would be about entirely different mythology with more robots? *handwaves details*

Favorite female writer (television, books, movies, etc.): I'm just going to quietly go with Madeline L'Engle so this doesn't become a giant three-way standoff with Ursula LeGuin and Octavia Butler, who all have several works I adore beyond coherent words.

A female-centric fic rec: Off the top of my head and my open tabs: I've been poking around Star Wars fandom for a week or so, which is a bit insane since I know nothing about any continuations and get confused how many children there are.  But there's some really good Leia fic, like this one from the depths of FF.net, lurking in there and that's been one of my favorite things to come across.
