A friend of mine is writing an epic Cato and Clove win the games fic that is going to be absolutely amazing. (We designed her arena for the 75th Games and it is the creepiest, most horrible thing ever.) Her name is azelmaroark and she has written some excellent and memorable C&C fic. If you're interested, I'll link you.
I hope they don't turn that focus on Johanna, especially given that it's ambiguous that she was ever used like that (although I'm pretty damn sure she was, just not as extensively as my boy).
If you're interested, too, I'm working on rewriting Catching Fire (and eventually Mockingjay) from Finnick's and Annie's points of view. Gotta rescue my boy from the mutts (and if you're gonna do something, you might as well do it with style).

This sounds fantastic! I haven't spent any tome at all in the fandom, so recs are more than welcome. ;)
Oooh, interested in yours too, yes! I can see where this would be a fun fandom to play around with POV's, plus rescuing Finnick from the mutts is a very worthy goal. I'll look it up when I wake up for real this morning, yay Saturdays. :D
I still don't really think they will, if mostly because I think that any sex commodity parts will be downplayed overall or just not mentioned, but the thought absolutely horrified me enough last night, because it's much closer to the kind of movie I've seen before. (Nothing similar comes to mind for what happened to Finnick.) I couldn't remember if it was ever hinted that Johanna had had similar experiences. If it does pan out that way though, I want to know way in advance.
1) Nope, Q is not for me. :) I wasn't a fan of Avery Brook's acting the first couple because it kind of freaked me out that he wouldn't emote with his eyes. But we're good by now, I liked him in this last one a lot. Jadzia Dax is probably my favorite single character right now, but I like where Kira's set up on the show? Lots of potential for things to happen
( ... )
Tiny Rue, with Katniss' pin and her Mockingjay whistle would have made a great symbol too. Anyway, I babble. Ooh, you almost make me wish Rue had somehow won! I loved the Mockingjay whistle. It's the kind of thing that really worked well on film.
I didn't like actress!Rue, though. But I do like the idea of the character winning, if that makes sense.
Prim would have never made it. But that red-headed girl (I read a review where it said she took all the risks where Katniss just watched and learned from that girl) almost made it it if not for the berries. She looked very young. And Peeta almost ate the berries!!! Goodness.
So. Katniss and Rue should have been last women standing is what I think. :-D
I always think of Ophelia when I think of rue. Must be me. :-)
It makes sense, I liked the actress fine, but I've wanted a version where Rue wins since reading the first book. The Mockingjay whistle worked great on screen, yes.
Yes! The red hair girl! She's another one I wouldn't have minded winning (they called her Foxface in the books, but I think the actress gave her the name Finch or something similar.) Mostly she was clever, didn't kill anyone, and just generally kept them all off balance. Should have had more of her.
I'm not familiar enough with Ophelia to know, honestly. :)
Awww, I'm not up to DS9 yet, I'm still on TNG. I was told there were no direct crossovers, but either way I'll probably watch TNG all the way through first, that's the easier path to take on Netflix.
But that guy does look like Baltar.
(the actor who plays Q was one of the asshole government guys on Stargate SG-1, so I just want to hit Q in the face with a rock most of the time, lol)
I haven't gotten to see the Hunger Games movie yet. :-( Now that you mention it, though, that aspect of the second book is sort of annoying...
Hah, hitting Q with a rock sounds ultimately useless but fun. I support.
Hopefully you'll see it soon, but yeah, I think there's a lot about these books that I'll like watching instead of reading about, which doesn't happen often. There's a couple of things they cut from this one that disappointed me though.
YAY, DS9!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure that I have thoughts other than that, but yay!!!
I also really loved THG movie--probably better than I liked the book, though I suspect they complement each other, really. I thought the book--and especially the second two--didn't work so well because it was all in Katniss's pov. So much of the story hinges on the difference between how other people see Katniss and how she sees herself, but Collins can only tell us that (rather than show it) in the book because of her narrative pov choice. Whereas the film can do a much better job of showing both, and as a result, I was far more moved by Katniss's accidentally heroic and rebellious moments in the film than I was in the book.
By the same token, I think I'm looking more forward to the next two movies because I didn't like the books as well (and because the pov thing and the lazy telling rather than showing storytelling was the main thing I didn't like). I mean, we'll see how they actually turn out, but based on the first one, I'm optimistic.

I think you're probably right. I felt similarly about the POV, but the set-up of the other two just bothered me other ways too. District 13 and how she rehashes the Games in every novel put me off even further than the POV did alone.
If the other two make as good of a movie, it may be the first time I like an adaption better than the books. But I'll probably get more out of them personally by having read the books, so. *shrugs*
