If it kills us at least we're having this much fun. ;)
I wasn't so worried for Bolin (YET!) but they could have really really easily. And I'm thinking at least one character we know well will have their bending removed. THE IMPLICATIONS, SO SCARY.
Ah, yes, right, because I have a vid to finish, followed by a computer system to completely reinstall, followed by a billion other shows to catch UP on, FOLLOWED BY FINALLY WATCHING AVATAR. Possibly even from the beginning. o.O
But srsly, I do think I need to check out this show. chaila43 tells me I would like Korra...
Because while I'm generally in favor of free choice, accomplishing things and most importantly, vidding, DAMMIT WHY ARE YOU NOT WATCHING THIS SHOW?! :D
(My bias is showing beause it's so far nearly my perfect show and SUCH IS MY JOY.)
But if you do decide to join us soon, I'll recommend going with Avatar first too. You can easily get most of the context without it and there's still Korra, but it's pretty darn cute and I think the themes are going to matter a surprising amount. Just, idk, a richer watching experience.
UGH, hope this went through finally, LJ's being screwy.
I should warn you that, like you, my thoughts at this point are mostly FLAILY. I need to rewatch all three episodes some time soon and formulate more, um, articulate thoughts but as of now? I already know that i am going to love this SO MUCH BETTER. Because, female hero narrative journey, YES. But also? I love the first series, but if I did have a minor issue with it, it's that it was a bit too black and white in terms of good/evil for my usual tastes
( ... )
FLAIL is encouraged! At this point it's really their story to lose, because all the elements are there for this to be a morally complex, woman-centered epic.

Yes, this! Because the complexity is what I'm loving about LoK the most right now and how that will (and has already begun to) translate to Korra herself. That they're giving the sequel space to acknowledge AND question the original is beautiful and right now I have a lot of confidence they can follow through on it too. I mean, sometimes you need a Kyoshi to make hard calls when netiher the choices or goals are so clear. :) I don't think that's Korra yet, but I don't anything she's facing is going to be as clear cut as with Aang.
KORRA! She had a great moment last ep when she admitted she actually wasn't ok at all and there's already been so much development with her. I can't wait to see who she'll become.
I mean, it's very true the Equalist and anti-benders generally haven't gotten a lot of nuance, but I'm going to maintain for a few more episodes that it's mostly because we're kind of seeing Republic City right now for Korra's POV. When they fill it the background I will be validated! (Right?) Basically, I see Amon as being a symptom of imbalance, not the cause of it.
Though I WILL CRY if Pema being a non-bender isn't hugely significant. DON'T LET ME DOWN ON THIS SHOW! (Not that I don't want other perspectives on the Equalists too, but Pema showed up in the first 5 minutes wishing for one kid to be like her.)
I do like that they've been subtly countering Amon a bit too, like with Mako's second job at the power plant. It's evidence of how integrated bending is with society and well, they punch lighting at tubes all day so the city has power. Not so oppressive. (And also, hilarious, because how badass was lightning ability supposed to be in AtLA? Now it makes the lights work too. :))
