Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of my mother's death. I want to do something to honor her, but I don't know what. A friend told me once that her friend lost her mom also, and every year she would go out and buy something for herself. I might do that. Or, I might just go to Maymont if the weather is nice. Every year on the anniversary of my Dad's death, I light a candle, pour him a Heineken (and one, maybe...twelve for myself) and I think about his life and how we can all make it a better place just by taking time to respect one another.

Even though you will be sad, keep your mother alive in your heart by remembering her life and all of the good that she brought into the lives of others.

But don't drink alone in the dark, it's really hard to find your beer and you might knock something over. Hang in there buddy!

I always have a conversation with my mom. Anyone listening to me would probably think I was crazy when I do (no silence or whispering), but it's nice to just tell her everything going on in my life. Good things, bad things, mistakes I've made, apologies for said-mistakes; even angels miss details, so you have to fill in the blanks. Then I ask for guidance with whatever troubles I'm going through... it's great. I even came out to her and said I was gay. I think she took it well...

You're a good girl, Emily, your mom is proud of you.

P.S. Be as sappy as you want tomorrow. :-)
