Odd thoughts - What is an Olive?

A friend of mine and I came across this question a few days prior. There was some speculation that an olive was a vegetable, but also wondered that it might be a fruit (due to pits) and there was also the brief wonderment to if it was actually a bean, or something different entirely

hi. i was stalking your fanfic after reading something you co-wrote for big bang when i came across this query. having had the "is a tomato a fruit or vegetable" argument more times than i hardly believe is possible, i just had to comment...sorry to intrude. but uh, i have learned that it actually depends on how you define "vegetable". see, vegetable is a culinary term, not a scientific one. http://www.sciencedaily.com/articles/v/vegetable.htm... )
