I love this meta.

It's like this person managed to crystallise everything that I've thought/loved/feared about Sam into 800 glorious words. This is why Sam fascinates me so goddamn much, why his character growth turned my vague on-again, off-again interest in Supernatural into outright obsession in season 4. I also like their reasoning behind Hallucifer, because YES ( Read more... )

Sometimes I wish the EU had ended with the New Jedi Order, y'know? Because--Jacen. Jacen. *sobs right along with you*

I quit reading when they killed Anakin, to be honest. I've never been so angry at a franchise in my life. NJO started out SO promising, and it was shifting so seamlessly to the younger generation, and then all the new writers came in AND THEY KILLED EVERYONE.

*hate glares*

Oh, but Traitor (Jacen's year of captivity with the Yuuzhan Vong after Star By Star) is amazing--it's the book that introduced, and eventually hooked me onto NJO. Jacen blossoms as this complex, amazing character, and then they spoil it ALL with the later books. I'm just so disillusioned with anything Star Wars right now, TBH.

Were you a season 4 convert too? My biggest regret was that I didn't start watching sooner. Thanks for the link!

I have been watching Show since about late '06, and while it was interesting and awesome, I would've probably moved on from it long ago if it were not for the drama and Sam's fall (and subsequent redemption) in s4. That's when I sat up and thought, "damn, but this show is not afraid to take chances with its protagonists!" And the protagonists are better, more complex characters for it. :)

I've never watched a show so willing to take risks with its heroes. For sure, there are plenty of shows out there with anti or dark heroes that do all sorts of questionable things. But Supernatural is not a cynical show, not really. Sam and Dean are true heroes....and yet they make mistakes and stumble and fall and help each other back up, even when they've sworn they are ready to stay down...

After being about three episodes in for Season 1, I told my husband, I think I've found my heart show. Tis still true.

Ha ha, to each her own, I guess. :)

For me, Sam's descent plays a major part in how awesome he is right now. His character arc is one of my favourite things about Show.
