"11.25. Castiel is a fully-powered angel--it is possible that he could've gotten out of there on his own, and that he could've easily zapped Dean out of there, too. After all, here is the guy who pulled Dean out of hell and Sam out of the frickin Cage (something I still find highly suspect, btw). Purgatory ought to be easy, right?"

Hah, i never even thought of that o_0.

"Also, Sam on his own? Is a dangerous, exciting, self-destructive BAMF. Mmm, yesssssssss. \o/"

Yeeessssssss, thats what im hoping for next season, amongst other things like a better plot, and less pacing issues. But mostly badass!sam. Maybe he and charlie can run around hacking leviathan computers and blowing up labs.

Though i have come to quite like the leviathan in all thier gleeful grossness. They're so weird and over the top i can't not like them.

As for dean and cas im mostly excited to see who they run into in purgatory (Gabriel? Gordon? who knows), and of course sam triumphantly busting them out.

Badass!self-destructive!Sam FTW. I think it'd be a different flavour of badass and desperate, though, considering he's learned from his past mistakes. Exciting stuff. \o/

Maybe he and charlie can run around hacking leviathan computers and blowing up labs.

You know what? Sam can team up with Jodie and Garth, with Charlie being their behind-the-scenes super-genius hacker/helper. They can be the most awesome version of Charlie's Angels EVER.

and of course sam triumphantly busting them out.

Amen.

re #2 - I agree, and thus I think you should also read this spoilery tweet collection which made me feel better:
read the next to last one under @minimasical

re #7.5- that was actually pretty funny. My hubby- who is often the Dean to my Sam - yelled out Whoa! When Sam told Dean to shut up and then followed it up with "Nobody puts Sam in a corner!" (then we observed that it might be hard to corner Sam because he's a moose, etc, though he does get choked all the time by tiny tiny people which is really rather silly-looking)

re #11.5 - YES. I <3 Sam on his own. Sam makes bad judgement calls sometimes when he is on his own- and they are AWESOME. I welcome any form of desperate crazy shenanigans and just hope that the writers give it time to play out in all of its twisted glory!

re #12.5 I'm pretty sure they do. There's a statue of Sam in front of Lucifer's cage (right next to the "Don't feed the Angels" sign) and Dean's statue is in Alistair's workshop. It's made out of flesh and bone.

Thank you for linking those tweets. They do make me feel somewhat better.

Though I wish they'd stop talking about writing lighter eps. It's not overall darkness that's their problem, it's the fact that they've forgotten how to do a Mystery Spot like mix of tone and instead alternate often excellent angst with cringey comedy in indigestible chunks.

Though that may partly be Edlund affecting them -- he's an amazing writer, but to me he's much, much better at drama than at comedy.

cringey comedy in indigestible chunks.

LOL this is how I feel about all sitcoms lately. Luckily, Jeremy Carver - the writer of Mystery Spot, is coming back ; )

This is a good point. I completely agree. "On the Head of a Pin" and "My Bloody Valentine" - both phenomenal episodes. Two of my favorites. What Edlund excels at is dark humor. That's what made both of those episodes so damn good-he went deep into the dark, and his humor was biting. That's why I love him. I know a lot of people raved about his Castiel episodes too, but to me they're nowhere near as good as OTHOAP and MBV (I particularly miss Edlund's vision of Sam at his darkest- it's my favorite).

Holy bulls-eye, Batman...that's EXACTLY my take on it. Except I don't feel that's Edlund's doing; his dialog is crisp and snarky and always makes me grin. He nails the dark humor, IMHO. I honestly think it's certain writers forgetting what makes for a good episode. It feels like they're focusing so much on tv show semantics and "WHOA MAH GAWD, WE GOTS SO MUCH PLOT!" that they forget to explore character growth and emotional connection with the audience.

I also think the editing and fx have gotten uninspired. But I really do hold high hopes that Season Eight will revisit what we used to love about the show and step up its game!

re: 8 I'm having thoughts on Sam and forgiveness this season. I think it's running a range, from the forgive because you've been forgiven he has with Cas, to forgive because you've taken time first to be legitimately angry with Dean after Amy, to something I'm a bit worried about with Becky -- it seems to me that Sam may have become too ready to go straight to the we've all messed up and done bad things but you're still a good person place, that maybe, except with Dean with whom he is genuinely comfortable, he's gone too far in the opposite direction from his earlier default to anger, and needs to find some balance.

Whereas Dean does "forgive because we will probably die tomorrow".

I really liked the ending. Not just the set up aspect of it, but the way it played Sam's reactions, the way he was simultaneously distracted by everything coming at him and unable to give it any attention because DEAN HAD JUST VANISHED. The rest of the episode was mostly alarmingly emotionally empty, but that really worked.

That's definitely something to think about. :) He certainly has been free with his forgiveness and empathy this season, even when the situation required a little more debate (which I still think the Amy situation deserves. No shouting and walking away, mind, just healthy arguing).

unable to give it any attention because DEAN HAD JUST VANISHED

I liked how Kevin kept calling to him but Sam didn't even bother to answer because, shit, Dean had just vanished into thin air. Very nicely done, I agree.

I was very disapointed about the lack of Hallucifer refernece in "the road so far" because that meant no references to Hallucifer in the ep. And right I was. Damn.
Dean and Cas in Purgatory didn't make me happy either, since that looks too much like the upcoming Dean&Cas show. (The purgatory looks interesting so far. I do hope dead demons go there as well, for obvious reasons. Did I mention I loved your Sam&Ruby in purgatory fic?) Sam all on his own, however, that's something I can live with. I just hope they remember to give him actual screentime and proper plotlines this time. He does exist as something other than Dean's sattelite character, after all.

Sam going after Bobby was gold. I just love him. And it pains me that Bobby left without so much as one meaningful conversation to share with Sam in all the show.

Kevin is eginning to really grow on me, especially sicne he was so overwhelmed and understandably panic-y in the beginning. And I agree: the scene with the girl was highly uncomfortable.

I hope s8 divides its time fairly between Dean and Cas's travails in Purgatory (which could be interesting--just think of the characters they could recall!) and Sam being alone topside, forced to deal with the rest of the Leviathans. More than anything, however, I hope SamnDean are reunited soon.

Oh god, I know it's too much to hope for Ruby, but still. *dreams on*

Actually, Sam's had exactly one meaningful conversation with Bobby, and that was in 7.09. In fact, that was what tipped me off to the fact that they might be offing Bobby soon--it was, in effect, Bobby's token "goodbye" conversation with Sam.

Kevin is awesome! I love that he continues to be important for s8.

I'm surprised nobody else seems to have mentioned that scene with Polly. Just--highly discomfiting, and not in the good, horror-y way.

I didn't dig the Polly scene either, honestly. I found the whole scenario clumsy and contrived.

I kinda wonder if they deliberately left out Hallucifer stuff so we'd think they forgot about it, and then spring it on us when it would be REALLY AWFUL for Sammy! *crosses fingers for the drama*
