Thoughts on SPN 8.02

Blaaaah. So after three countless false starts to this post, I thought, hey, you know what? I really, really miss Hallucifer. What if he were to provide commentary on the episode? The words flowed after that.

SPOILERS under the cut.

Also: warnings for some gore and plenty of swearing. And... let me know if this style of recapping is too unfunny/ ( Read more... )

That was fun! auroramama October 13 2012, 05:39:09 UTC
I'm looking forward to further adventures. I like the way Sam and Hallucifer work together with a kind of bitchy near-affection. Sam's used to working with a jerk, and this one knows everything he does. Admittedly Dean never tortured Sam for centuries, but then neither did this version of Lucifer, except insofar as Sam's been torturing himself like a good Winchester for most of his existence.

I liked this a lot, and while I enjoyed much of the episode myself, I agree with most of the criticisms here.

I'm glad you think so! I thoroughly enjoyed writing Hallucifer, and you're right--Hallucifer and Lucifer are different people. I rather like the idea of Sam's subconscious employing him as a Dean-replacement in Dean's absence.

The episode by itself was rather good--but the general direction that s8 seems to be heading hasn't been awfully satisfactory so far.

That was awesome!! You single-handedly managed to make a terrible episode almost palatable. And instead of being frustrated with all the OCC-ness and plotholes it just became funny! Aaaah... Lucifer always makes everything better, doesn't he?

And now I'm craving for you to actually write a fic about Sam hunting leviathans with Hallucifer and trying to save Dean. I don't think that's been written yet...

I'll be looking forward to all your commentaries and more of Sam's adventures!! (and they will probably be the highlight of my week since SPN isn't anymore).

I'm glad you found this entertaining! :) I thought the episode was pretty decent myself, but s8 hasn't been so hot so far, has it?

Lucifer always makes everything better, doesn't he?

Yep. :DDDD

I hope to get these commentaries out regularly, and I hope you'll continue to enjoy. :) I have a bit of a plot-arc brewing in my head to accompany these commentaries, but we'll see how it goes.

Hallucifer will have a lot to say on the rest of the season too I suppose, lol

This is glorious. I kept picturing Sam and Hallucifer riffing on the episode MST3K style. >

Haha, MST3K/RiffTrax was kind of my inspiration for this. :D

I'm glad you like!

HALLUCIFER. <3

Ha, I don't really disagree with a lot of the things Lucifer points out (things I probably shouldn't advertise about myself, lol) but I think a lot of the inconsistencies were so deliberate and unnecessary they felt more like clues than plot holes? And so I really enjoyed the episode a lot.

Of course, we have virtually nothing to our name, so naturally I-I mean, TV-me thinks of the Impala...

Ha, yeah, I loved Sam being pragmatic enough to think of that, and Dean being solipsistic enough to think Mrs. Tran's soul is worth less than his car. And neither of them even THOUGHT to bid the knife, which is way more valuable than the Impala. Or for that matter the entire storage locker at Black Rock, which certainly has a sizable price tag on it. They might be cash poor, but they have a lot. It'll be interesting to see if they figure out how to use it.

it's still baffling that possessing a female body makes him inherently weaker. I've been tossed around by 90 year old possessed women. The physical condition of the host ( ... )

I thought the episode was rather good, too, actually. No more plot-holey than your standard SPN episode. But getting Lucifer to poke fun at it seemed like a good way to expend some of my recent frustration with Show. :)

Or for that matter the entire storage locker at Black Rock, which certainly has a sizable price tag on it

I totally forgot about Black Rock! That's an excellent point. I wonder if the boys ever thought to make an inventory of the stuff John stashed away there. Or of any of the stuff they've learned/fought/acquired over the last few years--stuff that no other Hunter has come across before. I can only imagine they fear mulling over things gone by, lest they go completely insane.

it's perfect characterization of the two of them, but it does kind of make me roll my eyes.

Yes. It drives me up the wall, really.
