Jason, livejournals are quite often a source of childish whining and rarely offer any optimism to readers. Because of this a livejournal is indeed something to embarassed about unless you can prove that you have a variety of entries reflecting all sorts of moods. Because of the fact that live journals are chock full of drama, depression, and unfounded hatred for the world, they will forever be made fun of.
