I let myself get talked into doing my friends daughters hair. Kylee is five years old and seems to run on nothing but hide-and-go-seek and wanting to be the pink Power Ranger.

How do people keep up with children?

Four hours of watching her race around the house and I'm ready for bed. It's only five o'clock.

SO YOU WANNA KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH RUGRATS~ sursumcorda November 14 2012, 00:59:05 UTC
Between my regular job at Build-a-Bear, volunteering, and internships, I've worked with well over a thousand children since I was 14. The important thing to remember is that every child is different! Some are quiet, some (like Kylee) are energetic, some are in between.

The most important thing, I have found, is to treat them like a child, but in a way that makes them think you're treating them like an adult. Does that make sense? It's sort of hard to explain. Try to keep the focus on them. Ask them questions about themselves, try to do things they like, etc. Don't use a baby voice on anyone other than a baby, because kids don't like being treated like babies.

If all else fails, watch cartoons with them and feed them something from a can.

Hide and seek is always good to try, also treasure hunt list odd things a child can find and pick up and let them run wild and find them the reward is a cookie. My mom played the sweep the floor game, pre-swifer she had her 5 kids put on socks and slide across the kitchen floor. Teaching a kid to somersault is pretty exhaustive. Just make sure to clear a large area and put down a few blankets. baking cookies is fun and you get cookies. putting a movie in and coloring a person then pausing the tv and acting like your character is involved is hilarious (mainly to drunk college art students) There is always the dance bad game where you put on african drum music and rock out (as spastic as possible) you do have to be involved and make sure no one is taping it.

Kids seem to have boundless energy, that's one thing I've started to notice since beginning to look into voulenterring at local libraries and school libraries. I'm actually getting really fond of them, in a way that's kind of scary because they're so tiny. Itsy bitty tiny people!
