Summary: Another fic I wrote for release of some angst. It's not that good. I probably could have done better, but I hope you like it all the same.

Nothing seemed to get through to him anymore.

It was hard to see how different he’d become over so many years, yet he hadn‘t aged a single day since then. This new year would be counting the start of eleven years that he hasn’t left the shop, none during any of his visits from his watchful eye. Not to say that the boy had noticed him there at any given time he moved to the porch in a scenery change from the parlor. The silent watcher never would allow something like that, regardless.

Sighing, he slipped his hands into his pockets. Pale, blue oculars eased as he turned his head to the side to glance into a place he’d never dream to set foot inside. At least not like he had used to in their “younger” days. That seemed to be a peaceful dream as he sat in the cold, his breath raising in heaps of steam with each release.

He’d never be able to go back to them after his wordless disappearance with the other’s of his class.

Closing his eyes, he allowed himself to inhale the intoxicating scent that he couldn’t forget. As much as he wished he could be closer to him, something like that would be absurd. Maybe he’d bring pain if he did, maybe he’d bring relief. He didn’t know, but he didn’t want to risk anything when it came to the fragile heart of the already broken boy.

“Ah… another year without Yuuko.”

The sound carried out to the young boy, brown hair swaying in the wind as the breeze wafted the smoke over his presence. His eyes closed as he took it in, smiling gently at the words as his chest tightened.

He should have known he couldn’t replace that woman. She meant more to him than he ever could hope to mean for himself. Bitter thoughts filled his mind as he shifted to get up from the ground where he sat. His smile remained hanging on his lips, tattered and deteriorating as he leaned against the wall. Tilting his head, he looked to the sky, watching each star twinkle in the frigid air above the shop.

“Sorry, Watanuki… guess I got so caught up with being just as important to you as she was, I became just like her.”

Silence.

“Hm? Is someone there?”

Sounds shifted to signal movement in the direction the boy had been in. The door creaked open as a cool wind spiraled around the new present upon the porch. Empty. A glance to each side filled his curiosity that it was simply his imagination as he blinked, moving to sit in the spot he resided in when choosing this location. Leaning back, he allowed himself to stare up into the vast sky as a few clouds hovered over the brilliant moon, as if waiting for the faux presence to return before him.

A smile was all the boy could manage as he listened to the breaths of the bespectacled boy. His eyes compelled to look in the boy’s direction, to only see the wall blocking the knowledge of him being there. Shaking his head, he closed his eyes and turned to head off to leave him to his thoughts; to leave his heart grow colder with each step he took. Maybe they could smile together again when the time came.

Eternity shouldn’t be that long of a wait.
