it is a very strange thing to witness someone so desperatly close to you being in intense physical pain and be helpless to alleviate it

We all see our parents as gods when we are young children. A good parent remains an amazing person in our life and affects us more than any other person we will ever meet.

I feel for you in this, and wish you hope and strength. Perhaps in your martial path you will find what you need to deal with this, even in the hardest times.

There is a Biblical story of a woman whose physical condition prevents her from walking. At first she resents God for giving her this condition, and feels totally useless to the world. But because of her condition, she learned to play the lyre, and also to sing, until she was more talented than anyone else in the town, and everyone came to listen to her song. But were it not for her condition, she would not have achieved such great things.
