I'm the same way, im planning on getting it too but im scared of the same things as you. I heard it doesnt hurt by several, just afterwards of course u feel it a lil and some peoples lip swells and some dont. The pain stops in a week i heard . Irritation of the gums im not sure, but then again its sort of similar to the labret (sp?) its by the gums to and everyone who has it seems ok with it.
any piercing hurts when it's being done- you have to deal with the initial pain, take care of it to avoid infection and the aftermath is the beauty/happiness it brings to you.
if not: take it out and move on w/ ur life.
my nose and belly are done...and i went through the above. you have to no matter what.
everyone has different ways of tolerating pain, so i guess you would have to try it out in order to find out on your own.
yeah do it when you're extremely excited, overwhelmed and willing to do anything at the moment. just don't go drunk, cause that will increase the pain/blood shed. also make sure you have a small bottle of mouthwash (mint listerine, preferably, taste is a bit better than the original) by your side, that will become your best buddy for a good ol month or so.
i'm an exceptional healer, and it boils down to you and how well your body reacts to the piercing/metal. swelling for me was almost unoticeable and the obvious/noticeable swelling lasted one day. If you do get it keep eating ice, drink cold water, and take motrin or advil (must be ibuprofen form medicine to reduce swelling

thanks. that's helpful. i read some stories on bmezine.com and it seems that it doesn't really hurt at all. the only piercing i've ever had was my nose and that didn't hurt one bit. i think i'll do it this week. maybe friday after work so that i don't scare my family during thanksgiving.
