Character Information:
Character Name: Data
Age: 47 (Years in Activation)
Canon: Star Trek : The Next Generation
Appearance: Data is humaniform in appearance, indiscernible from most humans except that he has pale gold skin and gold eyes. He has brown hair that he wears slicked back, and keeps himself pristine most of the time. He will dress to match the setting quite readily, and is about 5'10'' in height. Other than coloration, his features are largely unremarkable and his build appears to be average.
Personality: Bear in mind The Next Generation ran for seven seasons and through four movies, so his personality changed quite a bit over time. A few things remained the same, though.
For one, he always felt that that perfection was unattainable. His daughter asked him why he strove to be more human when he couldn't achieve his goal, but he said that the point was the journey and not the conclusion. He also told a young boy who was emulating him that because he possessed certain skills that could be considered superior to humans, this wasn't necessarily anything that would make him 'better'. Even after he got his emotion chip, he told the Borg Queen that perfection was the product of a delusional mind. No matter what his mistakes were, he would admit them.
He never was very good at socialization. Even after grasping the concept of emotion, his efforts were at best excessive because he still had little frame of reference to understand other people's emotions. It's difficult to put himself in someone else's perspective. However, his intentions are good (with the help of handy dandy moral protocols) and he's developed the ability to joke slightly, though he still has his moments of ineptitude.
The friendships he does form he's excessively dependent on, as it's how he develops his own personality he takes the loss of a friend especially hard. They linger on in his mind, and he'll frequently keep keepsakes or reminders of them so that they won't truly be lost to him. Even when he can't "feel" he still senses the disruptions in his programming brought about by their loss. His crew is kind of like his family, as well and even having not known his family it's still a very important concept to him He dutifully carries his daughter, Lal, around in his net in the form of her memories. He felt especially betrayed by his brother (as much as he could feel at the time) whenever he harmed anyone close to him. And he remained in contact and protected his mother about the truth of here existence up until her death.
Outwardly he would seem to have a very mild personality and is eager to please. He would prefer always to find peaceful resolutions to situations. Before taking any hostile action against anyone, he would try to debate them into a position of abdication. He would usually choose the quickest and most effective way to disable an opponent rather than the flashiest.
Despite this he has a passively commanding attitude; if he disagrees with something he'll take action against it and do so without allowing anyone to question him. Being an android his judgement has been called into question many times, as has his right to choose. When he feels that he's not being taken seriously for one of the previous reasons, he'll do things like turn off transporter systems and conduct scans on his own. For instance when they were going to transport the exocomps after disabling their ability to choose to rescue Geordi and Picard, Data deactivated the transporter without telling anyone. When he was in command of the Sutherland when he wasn't trusted by his first officer, he gave orders without explanation. If he feels he is in the right, he will do whatever he can to accomplish a means to an end.
Modeling some of his behaviors off of Sherlock Holmes, he tries to base his decisions off of empirical evidence and the balance of risk. Because Jean-Luc Picard was such an influence in his life, Data often tries to emulate him as well.
Background: I'm using "Regular Universe" and "Data Version 2.0 History"
here.
Special Abilities or Weapons: He doesn't need to breathe, but usually does. He can interface with computers either through fiberoptic cords or through the fiperoptic sensors in his skin much slower. He's strong enough to bend steel and thinks at 66 trillion processes per second. He can withstand the rigors of space without need of a space suit and has a perpetual generator providing him with energy to keep him working. His skeletal structure is composed of molybdenum-cobalt alloys and duranium, which are starship metals. He also possesses a phase discriminator that can keep him conscious of phasing out of reality and into another one. He can move faster than the average human eye can track.
If at all possible, I would like to keep his
abilities the same if possible.
Sect: Republic Military
Job: Command forces, since I would be bringing him in from when he was captain of the Enterprise in Star Trek: Countdown.
Samples:
First Person: [A holovid comes on, and Data appears in his uniform. He stands formally, his hands behind him, chin raised and posture perfect.] Personal Log, Day 52. I chose to go out later in the evening to interact with the local population. I was offered a Corellian brandy by a blue Twi'lek male. I found his demeanor questionable, but accepted the gift as a gesture of good faith.
However, promptly I detected that the sampling was laced with various toxins that would have been detrimental to most bipedal races sharing genetic similarities humans, intended to render someone unconscious. I brought this to his attention, and he seemed offended at the suggestion initially before fleeing the scene. I attempted to pursue him, but the crowd closed in around him and he must have had either associates to provide protection or prearranged concealed locations to withdraw to.
I will report the activities to the local authorities, but I am left to question how frequently these incidents occur.
Third Person: Data had always traveled. From his first moments awake, it had been in that time that he had decided to board the Tripoli and return with the crew and join their ranks at the Academy. He studied everything in great detail and graduated at the top of his class.
It was not surprising that watching the large vessels rising up through the air of Coruscant made him want to travel more.
He tilted his head back, determining which of the many pinpoints of light in the sky were ships and which of the few were stars they might be off to visit. As always, he wanted to help people, he wanted to protect people, and he wanted to get home; but he was still fascinated by what all laid out there, what he was getting a taste for on Coruscant.
He did miss having a cat. Perhaps he would get another animal, if he stayed her long enough. Certainly not a Gizka. He wouldn't want it to chew through his hand while he was idling for a diagnostic. Sitting wasn't necessary for him, but he settled down to relax on the rooftop, legs stuck out in front of him and his hands propping him up.
Anything Else: Last time I apped I had planned on having him pretend that he was an alien, and I still plan to do that. I would ask about it in my OOC return post. I apologize for flaking so early on last time.
