You know how when you're waiting for email, you check your inbox like EVERY TWO MINUTES? Yeah, I totally have better things to do. Inbox, I don't know how to quit you.
I think they have rehab. clinics to deal with compulsive email checking. I personally don't know of any, but I'm sure they have treatments and therapeutic counseling for most anything these days. You can just leave your Inbox window open and update it every once in a while. Anyone who sends an email realizes there will be a delay in receiving a response, so whether you read the email as soon as it's sent or later in the day usually won't make much of a difference.
I try to block out everything else while doing work or even just relaxing. I let the world move on without me for a little while and remind myself civilization won't crumble and fall into disrepair if I take a step back now and then. It's great to be on top of things, but it's also important to avoid being wound too tight. I can really relate to that problem.
