It doesn't sound like you're aware of it, but usually Western-based slash fandoms don't follow the same rigid pairing constructs as yaoi fandoms. The pairing listing doesn't follow seme x uke format, as whomever is listed first is the whim of the author, not a reliable indication of top/bottom.
That being said, while some people have preferences for one formula or another, most VigBean writers I know tend to shift back and forth between who is top/bottom depending on what they're planning to do with the story. Sometimes there will be a rash of ViggoxSean, and sometimes SeanxViggo. You just have to look. It might be useful to look at various writers' older fics if you have a hankering for SeanxViggo and aren't finding any right now.
(Perhaps you are aware of it, and I'm reading you wrong? If so, sorry about that. I'm just saying that fandom goes in waves, and if there's a lot of ViggoxSean right now, that doesn't mean anything other than we're in that curve and the SeanxViggo will come around again.)
I can post comments now, woot! Thanks for changing it.
When I was in TPM fandom, I used to read ONLY Qui-Gon topping Obi-Wan and never Obi-Wan topping Qui-Gon, so I understand your preference. Since finding VigBean I've sort of tossed aside caring who tops whom and happily read either - I suppose I find few disparities that make me want one to top the other: they're similar in age, height, even their handsomeness is similar in that neither of them is what I would call "classically" handsome, but that they have quirks and features that give them their own unique masculine beauty.
I don't know for sure, of course, but it *may* be that because of these similarities that many writers don't necessarily care about who tops whom, since most of the writers I read regularly switch happily. I agree with Galadriel that if we're in a curve and you'll see Sean topping Viggo soon enough. Until then, there are a lot of great stories to re-read! :)
Thank you for your comment Alex, and thank you for your understanding.
I think one of the reason I love VigBean so much is exactly as you said - their similarities. When imaging Sean & Viggo being together, I can see them two are equal and matched, which I personally think are very important in love and for lovers.
However, although I prefer reading Viggo being bottom, I cannot accept lower Viggo just for bottoming him. Sorry I don't know how to explain this accurately, sort of something like OOC I think. So when you say most of the writers switch happily maybe because VigBean's similarities, actually make me love those writers more. Because they see through these two men, they consider about their characters before writing; they are not just writing down the stories they like, but the VigBean's stories.
The Viggo and Sean who live in my head decide for themselves who gets to top and when - I seem to have very little to do with it! Seriously, the story for me these days is much more important than the sex; it's some time since I wrote anything explicit ;)
I agree with you that story is more important than the sex, and sometimes, small hint (a word, a short sentence) makes me even more excited than reading a whole NC-17. I remember in one of your fic, it says Sean found Viggo looked like a man well-done, or well-fucked, and this part made me feel so melting every time I read it. Anyway, I like the way you describe how they get along in your stories so much, doesn't matter who gets top on whom. Love you and your VigBean stories!
