[See, being in abandoned and cold places is something he's a little more used to. That's why he dresses in so many layers and remains in northern countries. But then you have the HOW DID I END UP HERE factor that makes all of it plain uncomfortable, regardless of location or circumstances.

And so Jack crosses his arms, makes a face, keeps calm and carries on.]

[AND LO, a barefoot boy in shirt and vest comes traipsing along, looking fairly unaffected by the cold attacking his toes. actually, he seems kind of preoccupied with coming up with a purposeful rhythm of crunching snow as he goes, spacing out his steps to a tune in his head, arms swinging carelessly. he only misses half a beat once he sees a shape ahead, smile evening out to something less carefree.

herp, a human. well, it's a start.]

[Jack notices the other figure almost right away -- it's hard to remain discreet in the middle of a snowy environment when you aren't dressed to that effect. There's a slight double-take when he sees how young and unusual the stranger is, though, namely when he notices the absence of shoes and respective absence of discomfort on his face. He presses his lips a little uncomfortably, always assuming the worst out of anyone with a smile for no good reason (even if it has since faded).

He slowly comes to a stop, still a few good meters away from the stranger, fingers curling under his arms. Cerbos remains quiet, but Jack knows he's just as alert as he is.]

[crunch, crunch, crunch, stop. alex leaves a dozen yards or so between them, letting his arms stop, dangling uselessly at his sides.

his voice is accented with something almost-but-not-quite russian:]

Hallo, stranger. Is this your wood?

[The accent definitely does not go by unnoticed. To be honest, he did not expect to hear English in the first place, but it's better than a stranger babbling stranger words at him. Maybe.

Jack spends another moment observing the young man and shifting uncomfortably with the cold.]

Afraid not. [The answer is quick, almost rushed, also accented.] I'm not from around these parts.

[his smile twitches a little at the unfamiliar accent, tilting his head down and shaking it as he mutters inaudibly to himself. he shifts into motion, crunching the snow a few paces closer, looking back up with a mild look.]

No, you do not sound from around any parts I know. But does that mean you are more lost than I am? These trees are not the same around my home.

[Jack's eyes focus on Alexander's feet for as long as the young man doesn't make eye contact with him. Being any closer to him doesn't seem to help a whole lot, but any agitation is kept quiet.

Instead, he allows himself to assume that the stranger is yet another person caught in the web of inconvenient warps through unfamiliar and absurd places for unfamiliar and absurd reasons.]

I don't suppose you have any recollection of how you got here, either.

[huh. interesting. alex's shoulders go up in a shrug, smirking.]

I walked. Did you not?

A rather long walk, by the sound of it.

[He's kind of hoping Cerbos will say something about whatever he picks up from the young man (if anything).]

[but i'm the most human human that ever humaned a human bro. a light chuckle.]

But of course. There are no homes to be found in that way. It is good I have run into you to tell you this, yes? You are welcome.

Ah. [He raises his eyebrows in a silent and ironic 'of course'.] And here I was under the impression you were the one seeking help.

I am not in distress, no. It is pleasant enough here, and until someone speaks up, I am not trespassing! Your impression is not correct.

I already picked that up, but thank you. [That dry tone could not be drier. Impressions so far? Arrogant and unaffected by the cold.

Not looking very good so far. Come on, Cerbos.]

I suppose I'm not needed anymore, then.

If you suppose so! [there's a little bite in his sigh; why do people not automatically just give him what he wants without having to spell it out or vaguely allude to it!!

OH WELL. this is why humans aren't great to hang with.

alex smiles anyway, swinging an arm across his abdomen as he bows - closure! - and starts to circle around the funky bloke and walk in the direction opposite.]

[What the fuck are you doing? I didn't tell you to let him get away.]

[Jack looks back at Alexander, making sure he's far off enough to not hear what he's about to whisper sharply in a rush.] Well you didn't tell me much of anything, did you? What the hell is he?

[Human with numb feet. Who gives a fuck? Go after him.]

[Jack presses his lips again, clearly unsatisfied and very reluctant to follow through with the order. He gives the young man's back a couple of side glances until he finally tilts his head in defeat, biting his cheek before calling out with a less than firm grasp on his tone.]

--Wait.

[steam follows a slowww exhale, a sigh. alex plants his next step, lifting the other foot and turning on a heel, balancing his weight by settling his toes in the snow.]

Yes, stranger?
