His last appearance in Nation X had him go from being that snarky bastard we all love to being little more than a flouncy gay stereotype.

There were some beats that I didn't think worked (FFS, he's a speedster with years of superhero training, so why can Northstar never win a fight without being evil and/or brainwashed? Also, the man is not much of a Chatty Cathy and would have told Scott just where to shove his lecture), but I actually had less of a problem with the Tim Fish story in Nation X than I have with Fraction's current characterization. I will admit to some bias in that, though. It's a combination of having stopped expecting anthology contributors to pay attention to current characterization years ago and so taking those stories as AUs and what-ifs, and the fact I really quite enjoy Fish's Calvalcade of Boys, so I was looking at it as less canon Northstar and more Tim Fish fanfic, if that makes any sense -- Northstar put through the CoB filter. Even aside from that, the story also hit some beats I liked, such as Aurora finally being supportive of her brother, Northstar being a little vulnerable, implying that the mutant isolationism isn't doing great things ( ... )
