Why are our less hazardous ports so distinctly European of late?

This is preferable to disease-riddled dinosaurs, I suppose. Though not by mu

Why?

Because such a thing would be futile and ill-advised, or because it's France?

Because it's France. Obviously.

Well, Severus, I don't know. My Warden [ bask in the irony he holds for this word... even in text ] is quite receptive to it. Quelle surprise.

How do they handle escapees?

I ask out of an intellectual curiousity.

To my knowledge, no one has attempted to escape into a port save Arthas. He was lured back aboard with baked goods.

I imagine punishment might involve a revocation of your abilities and time in level zero, however. Kitchen duty, perhaps.

Who's this?

Severus Snape. Does your inmate's file mention me? I would prefer to skip the prologue; with the port underway, I am rather pressed for time.

It does.

This thing's been fucking up, you want to just talk to me somewhere?

Private - Epistolary, apparently. XD emptyyourself October 21 2011, 08:29:24 UTC
I will be unavailable today. The purpose of these ports is to engage in the pretense of inmate-warden bonding.

Tomorrow at noon, if you are able to find someone to mind Bellatrix. It isn't a conversation I wish to have within earshot of her.

It's France. Why the hell would I want to escape to France? It's rather trading one hell for another, isn't it?

Could they even catch me, though? I mean, really?

People take desperate measures to escape imprisonment. Disappearing into the seedy underbelly of France would not be the most extreme I've seen.

Yes, Bellatrix, they could and would catch you. The Barge has, in the past, pursued inmates from world to world for months on end. I have never seen a successful escape attempt.

As I believe I mentioned previously.

Your point is taken, Severus. I'll play by the rules.

For now.

I suppose you and your pretty little wife will be enjoying the sights Paris has to offer.

As with the majority of the wardens, my intention is to monitor my inmate and see that this port has some benefit for his rehabilitation.

Why are you so very interested in my relationship with my wife?

Hardly. Though it is an experience to see France as she is in a time more akin to your own, Severus, my home has and always shall be in the south of France.

I can attest that, after so much time spent away from Britain, the precise location hardly mattered to me when I returned.

Then again, I have no particular affinity for Cokeworth.

Plans?

Shopping and food, predominantly. There are also... a few locations that I feel would be appropriate for me to visit.

I'm wishing we'd arrived further south, where the real culture is. However, as I understand it, La Coste the village still stands but my chateau is a veritable ruin. And I've no real desire to see Charenton again.

[Private] emptyyourself October 21 2011, 12:23:36 UTC
I can imagine you would no more wish to see Charenton than your inmate - or mine, for that matter - would wish to see Azkaban.

If he attempts to escape, incidentally, tell him there is no wizarding world here. True or not, he'll come running back if he suspects such a thing.

[Awkward. How to make this sound not-weird.]

I'm certain Martha would enjoy time with you.

[Well done, Snape.]

Y'know I hear Martha's pretty good at speaking for herself.

And I'll see what I can do. ...I'm already sort of intending to try to slip away at least one night while we're here.
