baby knits (and a scarf)

It feels like there has been a bit of a baby boom in my life lately, so... 2 baby sweaters, an elephant, and DNA... plus a scarf (not baby related).

First, baby sweaters.

I took another shot at an EZ Surplice Baby Jacket (Vogue Knitting Spring/Summer 2007), this time in stash acrylic (Patons Astra in blue and variegated blue). Modifications: I extended the cuffs in 1x1 rib, and I added eye cord edging all along the fronts.

Sleeve Detail:

Then we have ChildHood from Knitty. Mission Falls 1824 Cotton, in blue and white. The sweater is supposed to be in Giants colours, and I have a team patch to sew onto the front. It is for a little girl's first birthday (Daddy is a Giants fan, and she watches football with him, so she might as well be in team colours!), so I made the 24 month size. No modifications, except to the stripes on the sleeves (the stripe pattern matches the NYG alternate jersey pattern). If I were making this sweater again, I would figure out how to make the button bands at the same time, instead of sewing them on partway through. And I would not make a pointy hood.

Baby Toys:

Elijah from Ysolda Teague
Yarn: Elann.com's Luxury Merino Superwash (DK weight), knit on 3.25 mm needles to give a tight fabric
This is a fantastic pattern, with the attention to detail and the cunning shaping and finishing. It took a while for me to finish (too many projects on the go!), but was totally worth it. No modifications, and I would definitely make this pattern again.
Red Elephant...

showing some of the stitch detail:

Knitted DNA
Yarn: Elann.com's Luxury Merino Superwash (DK weight), 3.25 mm needles
The recipient's mother specifically requested a knitted DNA toy, so I found a pattern (Kimberly Chapman's Baby's First DNA Model). I used a KFB increase instead of the YO, as I was getting pretty big holes when I tried it. I did still run the yarn along the "seam" of increases to fill in any gaps.

Green Ribbon Scarf
Lace Ribbon Scarf from Knitty, modified to be just one pattern repeat, over 3 feet long. I was aiming for a decorative scarflette, with the intent being a bit of colour for an outfit rather than warmth (the recipient is just heading into summer).
Yarn is Merino-tussah silk handspun. I only had 65 metres, and I used every bit of it.

Photos of the handspun are on my ravelry page for the project.
