Asheville Mhthology RoundTable 2/8/08

The Asheville Mythology RoundTable will be meeting next Friday (a week from today) from 7-9 PM (location TBA).

We'll be discussing chapters 4 & 5 of Karen Armstrong's Short History of Myth -- but you don't need to have read the book to join us. Here's a topic outline:

I've read some Karen Armstrong before, but not this one yet. Based on your outline, might have to check it out. I'm in the midst of Walter Kaufmann's Critique of Religion and Philosophy right now. Yep, the Nietzsche translator. It's been pretty cool so far, especially when you consider how long ago it was written. If you haven't already picked it up, you might want to check it out. :)

Cool. I'll have to check that out. Kaufmann also did the best translation of Goethe's Faust I've seen, by the way.

The Armstrong book truly is a short introduction to myth -- I think the whole book is only like 150 pages and reads very easily...but it's well organized and makes an excellent springboard for discussion. It was a good place to start for our new RoundTable.
