What to do with a Roomba with a concussion?

So a wonderful friend got me a Roomba a few years ago. It worked well, but I had an apartment with free floorspace that was only about twice the size of the Roomba itself ( Read more... )

Hi Scott! My old roommate would've loved to take you up on the offer, but he moved to London. I bet if you posted it on freecycle or craigslist you'd find someone.

Yeah, craigslist is a good idea, and what i will probably do if I can't give it to someone directly.

I have a friend who's planned to build a Dalek onto a Roomba base. How interested would you be in sending it across the country? :) (am half-kidding, and half-not)

I am perfectly happy to send it across the country, especially for a project like that and especially if they'll cover or significantly help with shipping!

But I hope y ou reversed the order of building, or else we are presupposing a dalek that can be retrofitted to a Roomba. A very EVIL Roomba.

Can you get an estimate on the shipping? I have no idea how much those suckers weigh.

Just wondered if you looked this up, my friend is still quite interested.

When you called, did they tell you how much it would be to fix it? I've wrecked at least two of them and they've always just sent me a new one, but if it's far out of warranty, well...

Yeah, I tried calling. From the serial number, they told me (twice, as I tried in case different reps felt differently) that since it is a refurb and a gift, they'd need me to pay either for a warranty or for tech support (which might then require paying for parts) ... IIRC, that was going to come to ~$100.

Last time mine broke out of warranty, they sent me a new (refurbished) Roomba for $95, so that's probably what they were suggesting. They don't really replace parts unless it's something that you can easily swap out.
