I've seen those shows, too, and I wonder the same things. And I always come down to the same thing -- you can't put a price on sentimental value. (Well, you can, but that's not the important thing.)
I have some items from my grandfather. Maybe they're worth something, probably they're not. But they're worth more to me than they would be to anyone else. And, honestly, it doesn't matter a bit to me what they're worth on "the market." Whether it's worth $1 or $100,000, it's was my grandfather's, and that's how I see it. And no one else could ever see it that way.
