Bamboo!

Someone in Hamilton cut back their stand of bamboo and put the pieces out to the curb. What a happy find! I'm so glad I have a pickup truck ( Read more... )

There's a huge stand of bamboo on the side of the highway 27 going into Carrollton. I keep threatening every year to cut some for tomato and pepper stakes, but I never quite get around to it. This year I'll do it. I'll put the bolt cutters in the truck and force Mike to let me go cut some.

Much cheaper than buying bamboo from Home Depot, or those plastic stakes...

i have a friend who lives on Vancouver Island, and she paid quite a bit of money for a length of bamboo, from some organic farm or some shit like that in Seattle, to make herself a bamboo flute. the flute is longer than she is tall, and she's over six feet. (i have to asssume that it's probably close to 2" in diameter, both for sound production and for mechanical strength.) seems a shame to just use it for tomato stakes...

I think I'm going to save at least two of them to make fishing poles. I don't have a fishing pole, which is a sin for a former Long Islander.

Where in Phila is Hamilton? There is a neigborhood in Baltimore called Hamilton (once quite nice, now declining).

Hamilton is in NJ, a suburb of Trenton.
