A not insignifigant portion of many brands of Christianity involve the requirement of "spreading the Good News", which basically amounts to recruitment. The idea isn't to live and let live, but to rescue the unenlightened.

Different people take this at different levels. Some Catholics are pretty lax about it, hoping, perhaps, that others will follow their example. Others, especially Born Agains and JWs, take it door to door.

For some, eternal salvation is more important than a points card. No, I don't understand it either. :-)

Evangelising is more important for JeHo's than for any other Christian cult because they believe that The Anointed (144,000) will be in heaven to reign with Jehovah God. The rest of the faithful Jehovah's Witnesses (not of the 144,000) will live forever on a paradise Earth. Those people who are not members of the Watchtower organization will be destroyed by Jehovah God and cease to exist.

The system that God will use for determining if a JeHo is in the 144000 is primarily based on the number of people converted, with pyramiding (i.e. everyone converted by someone you converted goes towards your total).

It is, in essence, a spiritual Multi-Level Marketing scheme.

See I'm not sure the human race is or ever was "designed" to KNOW that eternal salvation is a guarantee... therefore, to me, a points card is far more important becuase it's real and tangible.

I KNOW I'm gonna get me some mad points if I just wait to buy all my vitamins during 20x points week. Heaven and hell, not so sure about so I don't focus my attention on it.

Kinda sad really, cause there are days where I wish I was able to just believe in something outside of whats in front of me.

Ugh. I grew up in that nonsense. The Stepford Wives look is accurate. Those folks are brainwashed. I know I was. Basically if they can't motivate you with "this is good news that you will of course want to share!" they break out the old testament prophets that admonish god's followers that if they don't try to save others who don't believe the same way, the JW will be held bloodguilty when those people die at Armageddon because the non-JW's didn't convert. Thus, the JW being judged and possibly killed themselves. So if they can't get them to do it out of love, they motivate them with fear and guilt.

It's all about the groupthink. Very Orwellian stuff, actually.

I'm so glad to be out of it.
