Gay marriage, Amazing Race and Adam Lambert

My thoughts on gay marriage (now legal in Sweden, yay!), the latest episode of the Amazing Race (including spoilers for that ep.) and Adam Lambert on American Idol season 8.

Gay marriage - now legal in Sweden! www.riksdagen.se/templates/R_PageExtended____18752.aspx

Gay marriage (or gender neutral marriage as we call them here) will be legal from 1 May 2009 in Sweden. All the major political parties voted for the change. Only a small party “Kristdemokraterna” (I guess you would translate the name to “The Christian Democrats”) voted against and they only receive around 4% of the votes every general election.

I’m very happy about this. Although we in Sweden have had The Registered Partnership Act since 1994 that gave gay couple basically the same rights as straight couples, it’s still important that the law makes it absolutely clear that gay and straight couples have the same rights.

I only hope more countries will make this change so that someday gay couples can get married all around the world.

Amazing Race season 14 ep. 7

Oh, they’re going to Thailand, this should be fun.

The teams look kinda ridiculous when they run around shouting “gorilla” and showing a picture of a big gorilla statue to everyone.

No, Mel and Mike, if you aren’t 100% sure you’re going the right way you should follow the herd!

I feel sorry for the chained up animals in the zoo and I think that the Amazing Race really shouldn’t encourage and promote things like that. On the other hand performing elephants are something that is probably quite common in Thailand…

The task in the herb shop seemed like it went on forever and it wasn’t that fun to watch. Jamie wasn’t very nice this episode, so her team is moving down on my list of favorites.

Speaking of annoying teams: the stuntmen are now on my dislike list (the only team there right now). It’s just wrong to sabotage other teams like they did and I’m glad they were penalized, especially since it made them go from first to third.

I still like Margie and Luke and was worried about her when she collapsed at the pitstop, I hope she’ll be okay so that she can continue. I was also nice to see Phil take care of her.

Tammy and Victor won again, they are a strong team and I like them more and more (Victor speaking with the camels last episode was adorable). But they still need to work on their communication.

I still don’t have any strong feelings for the Sisters. They’re not annoying but they’re not interesting either.

I’m soooo sad to see Mel and Mike go. They were fun to watch and didn’t lose their temper (like Jamie for example…). I was hoping they would win or at least reach the finale.

My favorite teams:

Margie and Luke

Tammy and Victor

Jamie and Cara

Kisha and Jen

Mark and Michael

Adam Lambert - American Idol season 8

Okay, two things first: I’ve only watch Adam’s performances (on youtube) and not anyone else. And I don’t listen that much to music, I only know what I like.

Black or White - I’m not a big fan of Michael Jackson but this is one of his better songs (from the ones I’ve heard).  I think this was a great first performance by Adam. I showed that he can sing and move around the stage and most important he looked confident and comfortable on the stage.

Ring of Fire - My favorite. I know a lot of people hated this and maybe it helped that I’ve never heard the original song. But this performance was just incredibly unique and I can’t believe someone did something like this on American Idol. I just love it!

Tracks of my Tears - So very different from the week before (which was probably a good thing). A beautiful song that I’ve also never heard before, but it almost made me cry. Adam’s voice is so amazing. And a standing ovation from Smokey Robinson, it can’t get much better than that.

Play That Funky Music - I like Adam’s version better than the original. But still this isn’t my favorite performance, I would probably like it better if I liked the song…

I’m looking forward to next week. I’m also watching AI8 on Swedish TV and I’ve seen every episode up to and including Hollywood week. But we’re still a few weeks behind here in Sweden… :(
