Thinking back on what we talked about before you left, it sounds like you've found what's important to you. If possible, by all means, finish the PhD (I wish I'd finished my Masters just to have gotten something out of my work other than a desire not to be doing that), but go with what you love to do. We're both approaching a significant age level. No reason to spend the rest of your life doing something other than what you want to do

The LJ-crosspost is done with a Wordpress plugin called "LiveJournal Crossposter" . ;) I'm assuming you can add plugins to the Wordpress-hosted blogs. From your Dashboard, select "Plugins" and then there should be a button for "Add New" that should take you to the Wordpress plugin database. If you do a search for "livejournal", you should find the plugin there.

After it's installed and configured, you can selection which categories get cross-posted and a few other options. (Settings->Livejournal).
